Job description

Kids In Crisis is Connecticut's ONLY free, round-the-clock agency providing emergency shelter, crisis counseling and community educational programs for children of all ages and families dealing with a wide range of crises, including domestic violence, mental health and family problems, substance abuse, economic difficulties and more.


REPORTS TO: SafeHaven Program Manager


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transport/accompany clients to appointments and placements.
  • Administer medication.
  • Implement behavior management level system.
  • Help create and maintain a positive therapeutic resident living environment (including shopping, meal preparation, cleaning, bathing of small children, laundry and supervising resident activities).
  • Supervise, plan and facilitate activities including outside recreation for residents.
  • Teach activities of daily living (cooking, shopping, money management, etc.) to residents.
  • Contribute to client case files.
  • Model appropriate, positive social skills.
  • Manage safety of shelter; implement fire and evacuation drills.
  • Maintain call logs and other paperwork.
  • Perform bed checks each 30 minutes at night if on night shift.
  • Follow all KIC policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with a talented multidisciplinary team to find innovative solutions for engaging and working with residents.
  • Successful completion of agency trainings including but not limited to TCI, Med Administration, Phone Training, Crisis Intervention, Sexual Assault Crisis Training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, or related field.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
  • A passion for working with children and adolescents.
  • A true team player who enjoys collaborating with others.
  • Creativity and flexibility, with a sense of humor and a willingness to roll up your sleeves.
  • CPR required at hiring.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.; ability to stand and sit for long periods.
  • Climbing and descending stairs.
  • Valid driver's license to drive agency vehicles.
