Job Opportunity: Writer/Communications Coordinator

Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools invites applications for the position of Writer/Communications Coordinator.

This role, within the Communications Department, involves developing written materials and gathering news. The successful candidate will collaborate with various departments and schools across NLPS to generate ideas and produce engaging articles, features, newsletters, presentations, and content for both digital and print communications, aimed at internal and external audiences.

Current Wage Rate: $32.49 per hour for a 35-hour workweek, with a competitive benefits and pension package. Please note that this wage is subject to change based on Collective Agreement processes.

Desired Skills and Experience
  1. A diploma in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field from a recognized postsecondary institution.
  2. At least 2 years of professional writing and editing experience, either in a newsroom or corporate communications, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  3. Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint.
  4. Knowledge of digital communication tools, including newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Smore), Adobe software, and website platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal).
  5. Understanding of photography and videography best practices, including editing.
  6. Minimum keyboarding speed of 60 words per minute.
  7. Strong collaborative skills and excellent communication abilities.
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  9. Effective task prioritization and deadline management in a fast-paced environment.
  10. High attention to detail, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  11. Knowledge of IAP2 public participation methods.
  12. Valid BC Driver’s License.
