Opportunity

As a Wrap Around Support Worker, you will deliver individual and family-based information and orientation services to refugee claimants and asylum seekers, equipping them with essential knowledge about life in their new community. This includes providing high-level information and raising awareness on key topics such as housing, employment, healthcare, banking, and Canada's immigration system. You will also facilitate referrals and direct connections to appropriate government and community resources. You will manage pre-referral eligibility assessments, intake, and eligibility verification, and facilitate wrap-around support plans tailored to each client’s needs.

The Key Areas of Responsibility are:

  • Conduct intake assessments to determine eligibility for services and support
  • Responds to client referrals by outlining the program eligibility and services;
  • Conducts client intake of eligible clients, including Service Consent or provides information on and referrals to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required;
  • Conducts assessment of client needs, assets and capacities through interviewing clients, preparing case histories;
  • Plans, prepares and conducts workshops, encouragement and support (individual service);
  • Develop individualized wrap-around support plans for clients, addressing diverse needs, with a focus on housing, emergency housing, paperwork completion, and labor market support.
  • Coordinate and implement support services to ensure clients' well-being and successful integration into the community.
  • Provides emotional support, cultural brokerage and feedback to clients including crisis response and intervention;
  • Develops service/action plans that ensure that are integrated and holistic;
  • Collaborate with clinical counseling services to identify clients in need and facilitate appropriate referrals.
  • Maintain communication with counseling services to monitor and support clients' progress.
  • Maintains related records and statistics. Produces reports, including intake, progress, and discharge in accordance with established policies and guidelines;
  • Liaises with other community service providers, professionals to coordinate services and to ensure that interests of clients are considered in decisions affecting them.;
  • Accompanies clients to meetings and appointments as needed;
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures and standards of practice;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualified Candidates will possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related human/social service field; and one (1) years recent settlement services related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the needs and issues of refugee claimants, CUEAT Visa Holder and refugees in Canada;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant community resources, programs and services;
  • Demonstrated recent experience in conducting client needs assessments with vulnerable refugee populations and implementing a holistic service or action plan;
  • Ability to speak/read/write English and one of the contract languages at a professional level (Dari/Pashto, Punjabi, Arabic, or Spanish/French)
  • Knowledge of the community agencies, services and resources, especially in the communities of Surrey and Delta;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, problem solve with confidence to ensure effective service provision;
  • Demonstrated ability of using online communication platforms, such as Zoom and MS Teams;
  • Strong networking skills as well as verbal & written communication skills including the ability to present information to multi-cultural groups;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide support to the target service users in the event of workplace safety or employment standards violation, and other relevant legal assistance;
  • Knowledge in the areas of federal and provincial immigration programs and processes;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and inter-departmental teams;
  • Intermediate to advanced level user of MS Office, Internet and email applications.
