WORK EXPERIENCE AND TRANSITION COORDINATOR

1.0 FTE – Temporary position (August 25, 2025 to July 3, 2026)

Salary Range: $65,056 - $81,321 per year

The Special Education Department of the Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Work Experience and Transition Coordinator. Reporting to the Principals of Innisdale Secondary School (ISS) and Bradford District High School (BDHS), the Work Experience and Transition Coordinator will coordinate the planning and implementation of various experiential learning, cooperative education, and/or transitional learning activities for secondary-aged students (18-21) with special education needs enrolled in a Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) Secondary Transition Program in Barrie and Bradford, Ontario. The coordinator consults with students, families, and educators regarding strengths, interests, motivations, and placement options. Duties will include: employment history interviews, arrange placements, conduct appropriate testing and assessments, monitor staff (educational assistants), and provides information regarding appropriate experiential learning, cooperative education, and/or transitional learning activities for employability, eligibility, and barriers.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • University degree (education, disability studies, social work, social studies, or similar program);
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience working with persons with special education needs, preferably in a social service and/or educational environment;
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish positive and effective relationships with students with special education needs to engage students in instruction and/or skill building learning activities;
  • Proven ability to assess student interests, skills, and environmental factors (placements) that may impact successful participation in various experiential learning placements;
  • Excellent oral and written skills;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Proven ability to adjust to unexpected changes in scheduling or programming;
  • Proven ability to collaborate with other professionals, including educators, community partners, and/or employment/placement providers;
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook;
  • The ability to work flexible hours may be required based on program and operational requirements;
  • The nature of the position requires the successful candidate to have a reliable vehicle – mileage reimbursement provided at the Board established rate.

TESTING MAY BE REQUIRED DURING THE SELECTION PROCESS.

This is a temporary position with a normal work year of ten (10) months and ten (10) days. The compensation range for this ten (10) month and ten (10) day position is $65,056 to $81,321 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is based on a thirty-five (35) hour work week.

Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees,

even if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.
