The Canadian Woodlands team manages sourcing, access, harvesting, and transportation of timber for West Fraser’s Canadian operations, as well as reforestation of tenures. Reporting to the Canadian Woodlands Controller, you will provide financial and analytical support for all issues affecting Canadian woodlands operations, including the softwood lumber dispute with the U.S.

Your role will include becoming a subject matter expert in woodlands finance and accounting, leveraging technology to improve efficiencies, and occasionally traveling to operations to deepen your knowledge and support divisional activities. You will play a key role in the ongoing softwood lumber dispute concerning duties and stumpage.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Being a subject matter expert on woodlands accounting policies and procedures.
  2. Collaborating with divisional controllers to ensure policy consistency.
  3. Refining and maintaining financial reporting for Canadian Woodlands operations.
  4. Preparing detailed financial analyses of key metrics.
  5. Contributing to the softwood lumber trade file, including compiling log cost data for the US Department of Commerce.
  6. Partnering with IT for software use and upgrades.
  7. Supporting month-end close processes, including reviewing divisional entries and log cost analyses.
  8. Understanding business transactions and cycles, including logging contractor payments, while staying current on forestry legislation.

You have:

  • A professional accounting designation or equivalent experience (e.g., CFA).
  • At least three years of business experience.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach and problem-solving mindset.
  • Proficiency with computer systems; experience with Trimble LIMS and Oracle EBS is an asset.

Why Choose West Fraser?

  • Competitive salary ($90,000-$118,000) with annual bonus potential.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, pension, life and disability insurance, paid holidays, and wellness programs.
  • Relocation assistance may be available.
