WomenatthecentrE is a unique non-profit organization, developed by and for women, gender diverse, and trans survivors of gender-based violence (GBV). The Project: Over-Represented, and Under-Protected: Building A Reproductive Justice Framework Centring Indigenous, Black, and Afro-Indigenous Women, Girls, Two-Spirit, Gender Diverse and Trans (IB- WG2SGDT) Communities in the Greater Toronto Area
- Examine and document the systemic barriers impacting IB-WG2SGDT peoples' reproductive and sexual health, including access to culturally safe healthcare, the effects of GBV, and policy gaps
- Engage community members through community-based participatory research (CBPR) that prioritizes lived experiences of survivors and frontline advocates in shaping the research framework and findings
- Build solidarity within and between Indigenous, Black, and Afro-Indigenous communities by recognizing shared histories of oppression and reclaiming ancestral knowledge.
- Encourage allyship / accompliceship by involving Indigenous, Black, and Afro Indigenous men and boys in critical discussions on GBV and its intersection with reproductive rights
- Support sustainable change by sharing research findings through a Reproductive Justice Exchange Hub to inform advocacy, policy recommendations, and service improvements.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and highly skilled Project Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of reproductive justice and passion for addressing systemic barriers to culturally safe reproductive and sexual healthcare for Indigenous, Black and Afro-Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit, gender-diverse and trans folks. This role requires excellent organizational and communication skills, an understanding of the unique challenges within the non-profit sector, and strong project coordination skills. The Project Coordinator will support key project activities including, community-based research, community engagement, and a knowledge mobilization strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the engagement of a diverse, multi-level and interdisciplinary National Advisory Committee
- Support and work collaboratively with the project team, including the Manager, Directors, stakeholders, community members, students and volunteers
- Report to the Project Manager, Project Director, Director of Programs, Direction of Research and Community Impact, WomenatthecentrE's Board and Executive Director
- Support report and grant writing processes
- Coordinate and facilitate project internal and external team meetings
- Support a community-based participatory research process, including development, outreach, an informed consent process, conducting surveys and focus groups, report writing, and knowledge mobilization
- Maintain strong relationships with the project sponsor, WAGE
- Support the identification of critical research questions of interest to the community, research gaps and critical strategies to address Reproductive Justice challenges, gendered anti Indigenous violence (GaIV), gendered anti-Black violence (GaBV), and gendered anti Afro Indigenous violence (GaAIV) and other factors that perpetuate IB-WG2SGDT RJ inequality and GBV
- Lead the planning and facilitation of in-person community engagement gatherings, including outreach, coordination, structure etc....
- Engage men and boys on the topics of gender-based violence, toxic masculinity and reproductive justice
- Lead and support the collection and gathering of Black ancestral and Indigenous reproductive justice knowledge and practices through community gatherings and engagement with the National Advisory Committee
- Support a multi-method knowledge mobilization strategy, including social media, a knowledge exchange platform launch, infographic and research report development, and resource adaptation
- Collaboratively develop resources to support project objectives and knowledge mobilization activities
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience in project coordination within the non-profit, social justice, or community development sector
- Strong understanding of systemic racism, reproductive justice, anti-colonization, misogynoir, gender-based violence, and intersecting systemic issues of power and oppression
- Experience engaging men and boys on topics of gender-based violence, reproductive justice, and other systemic issues
- Excellent internal and external communication skills, including facilitation, advocacy, and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement communication strategies across various platforms
- Demonstrated ability to engage and maintain strong relationships with diverse and multi level stakeholders, including project sponsors, community members, internal team members, and key project partners
- Experience conducting community-based research, including engagement with diverse stakeholders, leading a trauma and violence informed research approach, and navigating an ethics approved process
- Ability to work collaboratively with organizations, policymakers, and community members to drive systemic change
- Strong writing skills for grant reporting, research dissemination, and stakeholder communications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lived experience as a Black, Indigenous or Afro-Indigenous community member
- Lived experience as a survivor of gender-based violence and/or reproductive injustice
- Previous experience working with/in community and multi-level stakeholders
- Previous experience in project coordinator/management roles in the non-profit sector
- Previous experience supporting community based participatory research initiatives
- Bilingual (French & English) is an asset
