Job summary

Dawson Road Maintenance in Smithers, BC is looking for Labourers to join our road maintenance crew. You will support safety around equipment, learn on the job, and contribute to our team with a strong work ethic.

As a Labourer, you will report to the Road Foreperson and may travel within the province. You must be prepared to work outdoors in all weather and to participate in shift work and traffic control duties.

Qualifications

• Must prioritize safety of self and others in all aspects of the job.
• Work collaboratively with all team members to complete tasks.
• Perform unskilled manual work requiring little training but with physical effort.
• Operate heavy equipment in all weather conditions on public roadways safely.
• Follow the Supervisor's daily production schedule and activities.
• Maintain daily work progress and completion status.

Responsibilities

• Stop, slow, and safely direct traffic through work sites.
• Give traffic control directions and signals clearly to motorists.
• Keep traffic flow moving with minimal delays.
• Maintain care in equipment use and maintenance.
• Complete all work reports and maintenance logs.

Job description

Dawson Road Maintenance is looking for Labourers, who have a good knowledge of safety around equipment, an eagerness to learn, and a strong work ethic.

In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance, working in a temporary, full-time position of Labourer reporting to the Road Foreperson. We are currently hiring in Smithers, B.C. and may require some travel throughout our great province.

What Success Looks Like

• Must prioritize safety of self and others in all aspects of the job
• Work collaboratively with all team members to successfully complete tasks at hand.
• Ability to perform unskilled manual work requiring little previous training or experience but involving physical effort.
• Operate heavy equipment in all weather conditions, on public roadways in a safe and appropriate manner
• Follow direction of the Supervisor regarding daily production schedule and activities
• Maintains a daily activity of work in progress and status of completion
• Maintain proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment
• Complete all work reports and maintenance logs
• Stop, slow, and safely direct traffic through work or construction sites
• Give traffic control directions and signals clearly and precisely so that motorists understand their meaning
• Keep the flow of traffic moving with as few delays as possible

What You Bring

• Minimum two (2) years of road maintenance and/or construction experience
• Valid Class 1 preferred, or 3 Drivers license is required
• Two (2) years commercial driving experience is an asset
• BCCSA Traffic Control Ticket
• Experience in snow removal is considered an asset
• Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements
• Heavy Equipment Operating Certificate an asset
• Able to manage electronic reporting using tablets
• Minor equipment maintenance
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to work shift work
