Windrem Elementary School

Windrem Elementary School is a student-centered Kindergarten to Grade 7 school located in the small town of Chetwynd, BC. We offer House Team Events, a provincially funded after-school program, the nationally recognized Me to We Program, and other clubs and activities. Our active Parent Advisory Committee supports our programs and events through volunteering and fundraising.

Our location provides access to programs at the Chetwynd Public Library, Recreation Centre, and Secondary School. We are within walking distance of various businesses, providing opportunities to engage with our community. The Chetwynd trail system along our green space offers outdoor activity opportunities for students and staff.

Many staff are long-time residents with extensive community knowledge, and some understand the challenges of relocating. Accommodation options, including apartments and private residences, are within walking distance, as are grocery stores, restaurants, banks, and medical services.

Desired qualifications and experience include:
  • Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience with curriculum adaptation and modification to meet student needs.
  • Experience teaching primary, intermediate, middle school, or secondary students.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills; willingness to implement school initiatives and goals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of social responsibility performance standards.
  • Familiarity with outcomes and evaluation processes in the new curriculum.
  • Commitment to individualized and group instruction using effective strategies.
  • Experience teaching in a multi-age setting.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Training in teaching ELL students.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs.
  • Willingness to collaborate on the school improvement plan.
  • Knowledge of Criterion Based Referencing and Performance Based Assessment, and Balanced Literacy.
  • Experience working with students exhibiting various behaviors.
