Job summary

Integrated Power Services in Canada is seeking a skilled Electric Motor Service Technician or Apprentice to rewind windings, test equipment, and perform electrical repairs on AC and DC motors and transformers.

The role requires adherence to Canadian Electrical Code, strong mechanical aptitude, and ability to work with hand and power tools, with opportunities for field service and ongoing training.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electric Motor Service Technician or apprentice with at least 2 years experience and enrolled in an apprenticeship program or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • High school diploma
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work with hand or power tools, such as multi-meters, drill presses and soldering equipment.
  • Understanding electrical theory, electron theory, and knowing and following the Canadian Electrical Code
  • Good communication skills both oral and written in the English language

Responsibilities

  • Rewind various kinds of electrical apparatus, observing proper insulating techniques and/or requirements.
  • Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot problems using various methods (AC or DC).
  • Prepare all reusable parts for rewinding or repair and inspect renewed parts for damage.
  • Operate repair and testing equipment, including winding machines, surge testers, and other tools.
  • Dismantle and/or strip damaged equipment and complete required forms on time.

This position is responsible for rewinding various kinds of electromechanical equipment, including but not limited to removing original winding, inspection of winding failure damage, recording data from original winding, calculating data, making new coils, winding and performing various electrical testing on AC and DC windings.Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods (AC or DC) and record dataTest condition of windings according to E.A.S.A. standardsIllustrate and/or document all relevant data specific to unit’s electro-magnetic characteristics operating conditions, existing damage, or intended serviceabilityDismantle and/or strip damaged or unserviceable electrical apparatusPrepare all reusable parts for rewinding or repair, and inspect renewed parts for hidden, structural damage or unusual conditionsRewind various kinds of electrical apparatus, observing proper insulating techniques and/or requirements during rewindingTest rewound electrical apparatus according to E.A.S.A standards and document test resultsOperate specialized repair and testing equipment, including but not limited to: winding machines, test panels, surge testers, core-loss testes, cut off sawsburnout ovens, bake ovens, grinders, cranes, forklift trucks, brazing units, dip tanks, VPI systems, and various handheld power and non-power tools.Clean electro-mechanical equipment assemblies as needed using various methods and steps, including but not limited to: parts washers/steamers, caustic tanks, glass beaders, etc.Retest and reassembled electro mechanical equipment for proper output, operation and record all data.Complete required forms for each job accurately and on a timely basis.Maintain, test, rebuild and repair electric motors, transformers, switchgear, generators and other electrical apparatus, both AC and DC.Wind, assemble and install coils.Perform outside field service repairs when required.Qualifications and Competencies:Journeyman Electric Motor Service Technician or apprentice with at least 2 years experience and enrolled in an apprenticeship program or 4 years equivalent experience.High school diplomaStrong mechanical aptitudeAbility to work with hand or power tools, such as multi-meters, drill presses and soldering equipmentUnderstanding electrical theory, electron theory, and knowing and following the Canadian Electrical CodeGood communication skills both oral and written in the English languageAbility to understand, perform and retain various skill-related training and operational and safety procedures demonstrated by supervisorAbility to handle multiple tasks and frequent demanding deadlinesMust be able to follow quality standards, safety requirements, procedures, and requirements.Who We Are:At IPS, we're committed to empowering you to make a meaningful impact.
