TOP - Wind Technician Level 1 Description

The Tech One Program (TOP) is a structured career development initiative for entry-level wind technicians, developed in partnership with industry leaders Sky Climber Renewables and Vestas Americas.

Job Summary:

The TOP Wind Service Technicians will undergo specialized wind safety and technical training accredited by the Global Wind Organization (GWO). The role involves working primarily at a wind site near your home, on a service team dedicated to safe and efficient wind turbine maintenance. Reports directly to the Program Manager and Site Manager, and indirectly to the Lead Technician. Responsibilities include performing preventive, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbine equipment, focusing on safety and efficiency. The role involves maintaining and repairing machinery used in power generation, turbines, and generators, under supervision, especially regarding electrical work inside cabinets or controllers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Authorized to work in the U.S. full-time
  • High School Diploma/GED and an Associate Degree in Mechanical, Wind Energy, or related technical field from an accredited institution, or equivalent work experience in mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic industries
  • Training includes: Basic Safety (First Aid, CPR, Fall Protection), Tower Safety (High-angle rescue), Technical (Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic), LOTO, and other required training; passing background and drug tests

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb 300-foot wind towers multiple times daily
  • Comfort working at heights over 300 feet and in confined spaces
  • Meet weight requirements for tower ladders (250-300 lbs, including PPE)
  • Ability to handle repetitive lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Successful completion of climb and rescue training

  • Work independently on maintenance projects
  • Dismantle and assemble machinery and components
  • Travel up to 25% as required
  • Work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Work at heights and in various weather conditions
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
