Site: Chatham Wind Farm – Chatham-Kent, ON, CA
The Wind Farm Technician – Wind 2 is responsible for the onsite operations, maintenance, repairs and replacement of equipment at the commissioned Wind Power projects (KEPA, KEC).
REPORTING
The Wind Farm Technician reports directly to the Operations and Maintenance Manager and actively collaborates with the Lead Technician and Maintenance Planner.
No position reports to the Wind Farm Technician.
Accountabilities
- In collaboration with other Kruger Technicians and/or contractors, operate and maintain the wind farm equipment in an efficient manner to maximize short and long-term power generation.
- Perform mechanical and electrical component repair or replacement of parts to correct malfunctions and breakdowns following all manufacturers’ requirements.
- Proficient in reading schematics in order, to troubleshoot complicated mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
- Lead generator replacements and assist with all other major component exchanges (ie gearbox, main bearing, etc), which involves large cranes.
- Perform continuous improvement activities and/or troubleshooting to improve operations.
- Comply with all environmental health and safety programs to both worker and employer safety.
- Lead and perform preventive maintenance in accordance with SGRE maintenance manuals and/or Kruger maintenance schedules to maximize equipment life in a cost-efficient manner. Including electrical testing, Torque and Tension, filter exchanges, etc.
- Perform predictive maintenance in the form of monthly/weekly inspections and testing, thermal imaging, battery testing, oil samples, blade inspections, borescoping etc.
- Use and input information into the site CMMS system (eMaint). Work order creation and completion. Including clear and accurate description of work completed.
- Support operations via on-call rotation for both Balance of Planet and Turbine issues.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems such as WPS and Enervista, to remotely operate the wind farm and diagnose problems.
- Assist in duties related to landowner properties or similarly-related issues as directed.
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Renewable Energy or Electromechanical diploma or equivalent. Electronics/Mechanical Technologist/Engineer preferred.
- 2 years Wind Experience, substation knowledge and experience are an asset.
- SGRE Maintenance Technician Certification or higher.
- GWO Work at Heights Certification.
- Ability to climb 80 meter steel towers on a daily basis to perform maintenance in the nacelle and hub.
- Ability to frequently lift items weighing 1 to 60 pounds and occasionally lift items up to 100 pounds.
- Computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management and reporting systems. Including the use of computerized diagnostic and troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Possession of writing skills to meet reporting obligations.
- Willing to work schedule, overtime, on holidays, weekends, call in and on short notice.
- Ability to work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to work with low and medium voltage and around high voltage.
- Familiarity with maintenance and electronic testing equipment. (i.e. multimeter, hydraulic torquing, alignment and various hand and power tools.)
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to use a forklift.
- Language: Oral and written communication in English.
WORK DETAILS
- Worksite: 4061 Simpson Line, Merlin, ON NOP 1WO
- Schedule: 7 AM to 3 PM, 40 hours per week
- On-Call: 4 week rotation. Evenings and weekends for BOP and turbine breakdowns.
- Hourly Wage: $35 – $37
