Position: WildSafeBC Community Coordinator

Location:

Kimberley, Cranbrook, and Surrounding Area

Wage:

$24 per hour

Type:

Contract

Hours:
  1. 500 hours, with possibility of more hours dependent on funding
Anticipated Term:

May 20, 2025 to November 30, 2025

Position Overview:

The WildSafeBC Community Coordinator is a unique opportunity to make a difference in reducing human-wildlife conflicts locally. Essential skills include professionalism, good communication, community engagement, and the ability to work independently. Coordinators will attend training sessions to learn about BC wildlife, engagement techniques, and conflict-reduction strategies, which they will implement in their communities.

Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver WildSafeBC presentations to community groups, service clubs, and schools.
  2. Arrange and present at public displays and conduct bear spray workshops at community events.
  3. Conduct door-to-door campaigns and garbage bin tagging where conflicts are present.
  4. Develop and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, local authorities, and community groups.
  5. Collaborate with local media and engage with businesses and campgrounds.
  6. Identify wildlife attractants and develop conflict reduction plans based on community needs.
  7. Record activities and data as required, and produce an end-of-season report.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable insured vehicle.
  • Willingness to pass a Criminal Record check.
  • Understanding of local human-wildlife issues.
  • Ability to write clear reports and demonstrate public speaking skills.
  • Ability to build partnerships and reside near the community.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Natural Resources, or related fields.
  • Experience in communications and community engagement.
Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers, virtual platforms, and social media.
