Job summary

Government of Alberta is seeking six Postmortem Room Technicians for Edmonton, Airdrie and Lethbridge to support Alberta’s Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance program. The role involves collecting tissues from hunter-harvested deer, elk and moose, processing and submitting samples for testing, and maintaining lab equipment.

Term is up to 6 months, with 36.25 hours/week, starting Oct 19, 2026. Positions require a high school diploma and at least one year of hands-on biological lab experience;

Qualifications

• Completed high school diploma.
• One year of hands-on experience in a biological laboratory.
• Preference for candidates with directly related work experience or one year of biological laboratory experience via technical college or university.

Responsibilities

• Receiving, processing and storing deer heads submitted for testing.
• Collection of biological tissue samples from dead animals.
• Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment as required (e.g., electric hoist, incinerator).
• Reporting/logging laboratory activities.
• Understanding and following biosecurity operating procedures.
