Wildlife Biologist (Amphibian Specialist)

Overview

Are you a wildlife biologist with a passion for amphibians, eager to take your career into a leadership role on meaningful and dynamic environmental projects? Join a collaborative team where your field and technical skills will support conservation and development across Western Canada.

Your Role

As a Wildlife Biologist focused on amphibians, you’ll :

  • Travel to field sites and execute wildlife surveys, especially for amphibians (highly preferred experience with coastal tailed frogs), breeding birds, and herptiles.
  • Lead or assist with field monitoring : nest / site assessments, bat surveys, herptile capture and relocation, and construction-related wildlife mitigation.
  • Design, plan, and lead field programs, acting as crew and technical field lead.
  • Provide amphibian and wildlife consultation to project and regulatory teams.
  • Manage project tasks independently, ensuring deliverables (e.g., technical reports, documentation) are produced accurately and on schedule.
  • Interact with clients, contractors, and regulators as needed.
  • Conduct independent reviews and advice on the best environmental management practices.
  • Offer mentorship and training to junior staff through collaborative teamwork and guidance.

Essential Qualifications :

  • Degree or diploma in biology, environmental studies, wildlife / ecology, or similar.
  • Registered Professional Biologist (e.g. BC CAGB or equivalent provincial credentials).
  • Demonstrated experience in wildlife fieldwork, particularly amphibians and species-at-risk surveys.
  • Previous consulting or applied environmental experience, preferably with coastal tailed frog monitoring.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Solid knowledge of multi-jurisdictional environmental regulations, permits, and legislation.
  • Preferable Attributes :

  • Experience serving as a crew or field lead.
  • Ability to propose pragmatic and creative problem-solving approaches.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Mentoring strengths and willingness to support junior professionals.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license appropriate for professional field use.
