Job description

In this role your responsibilities will include assisting with the growth and development of our Biological Sciences capabilities, as well as participating in the growth of new markets and products. Specific business development activities will include participation in the development of proposals; assisting in developing and maintaining internal and external Client contacts; mentoring and training new staff to assist in the growth of the Department.

Job Duties

  • Assist in the planning and conduct of wildlife inventory programs on a project related basis.
  • Ability to identify bird species in addition to protected and endangered species and implement bird protection and mitigation plans.
  • Advise on Provincial and Federal legislation pertaining to Species at Risk (SAR).
  • Assist in the acquisition of wildlife-related permits based on project requirements.
  • Assist in the inventory environmental conditions to determine their suitability for wildlife presence / potential with particular emphasis on SAR.
  • Research ecological relationships, life history habits, and requirements of wildlife on a project related basis.
  • Contribute to the development of and support implementation of endangered species plans to include risk assessment, compensation, monitoring and interaction with external regulatory agency staff.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of existing and emerging regulatory requirements, wildlife assessment methodologies and best practices.
  • Assist with the development of proposals, qualification documents and other business development related activities.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in biology, ornithology, ecology, environmental science and management, natural resources, forestry, or related field.
  • Provincial designations mandatory as applicable such as Registered Professional Biologist R.P.Bio., Professional Biologist P.Biol. Qualified Environmental Professional QEP etc.
  • 2-5 year’s direct working experience in wildlife biology, avian surveys, migratory bird sweeps, wildlife and environmental reports, government liaison and provincial / federal law and best practice adherence.
  • Familiarity with Provincial and Federal legislation pertaining to Species at Risk (SAR).
  • Ability to inventory environmental conditions to determine their suitability for wildlife presence / potential with particular emphasis on SAR asset.
  • Knowledge of methods of producing and maintaining suitable habitat for various wildlife species and asset.
  • Experience in field identification with one or more of the avian, herpetological, mammal, or botanical taxa a definite asset.
  • Proven technical writing skills with the ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Strong understanding of various hardware, software and equipment including but not limited to Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), various digital devices such as tablets, computers, GPS etc. Working knowledge of ArcGIS, Esri, AutoCAD are considered strong assets.
  • Ability to analyze tabular data and interpret the content of data sets.
  • Valid First Aid, driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to travel throughout Canada.
  • Willingness to travel (short-term duration).
