Your Contribution to NRSI

NRSI is looking for 1 locally suited, motivated and independent individual to conduct monitoring activities in the field, primarily conducting wildlife mortality searches at an operating wind energy facility near Kipling, Saskatchewan. The position provides an opportunity to gain experience in visual bird and bat identification, to implement scientific methods, and to collect and analyze data employing a high attention to detail. This position will report to one of NRSI’s Renewable Energy Project Managers for Field Coordination. The primary duties and responsibilities for this role include:

  • Taking well-organized and detailed field notes,
  • Communicating frequently with project managers, other field staff, and clients,
  • Conducting searches according to a strict schedule, and safely collecting and handling bird and bat carcasses,
  • Occasional assistance with other field- or office-related tasks.

Your Education:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma, or high school diploma.

Key Job Requirements:

  • Willing and able to work under inclement weather, in a variety of environmental and vegetation conditions, for long hours, and occasionally on holidays or weekends.
  • Physically fit in order to walk for several hours each day in potentially challenging terrain
  • Demonstrated interest in wildlife and the environment, including the desire to pursue a career in this field
  • A good work ethic and positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, and excellent communication
  • Ability to work independently on a regular basis
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including the maintenance of well-organized and detailed field notes
  • A valid driver's license and over 18 years old in order to drive a rental vehicle
  • Able to safely drive on rough roads and terrain
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Able to reliably commute to the field work location on a regular basis with a provided rental vehicle

Assets:

  • Experience in the identification of birds/and or bats by sight
  • Experience conducting wildlife surveys, soil assessments, vegetation inventories, or delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols

Location:Kipling or Regina, Saskatchewan. Relocation or accommodation costs will not be reimbursed for primary job duties.

Salary:$24.00-$27.00 per hour commensurate on experience.

Estimated number of hours per week, including authorized travel:4 - 32 hours.
