Job summary

The Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education seeks an Enhanced Support Teacher to design and implement educational programs for students with significant developmental, social, and behavioral challenges. Enhanced Support Resource Teacher

An Enhanced Support Teacher has a significant role to play in the design and delivery of the comprehensive resourceprogram for students with significant developmental, social and behavioral challenges. The Enhanced Support Teachermust be a licensed teacher with experience and commitment to program planning for students with complex needs.

Qualifications

· A valid Nova Scotia Teachers License;

· Successfulteaching and/or workexperience working with students with significant needs.

The Enhanced Support Program Teacher will:

  • Have strong skills that enable them to complete EA scheduling, direct EAs in their everyday work, problem solve as a team through challenges with students and any challenges that may arise with staff;
  • Have demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience with managing students who have complex behaviours and implementing appropriate teaching strategies and programming to mitigate those behaviours;
  • Creat Behaviour Intervention Plans and Safety plans for all students in the program collaboratively with Student Services staff;
  • Have strong decision-making skills;
  • Plan community outings for students that are in line with their IPP goals;
  • Have skills in debriefing and facilitating collaborative meetings with staff on a daily basis;
  • Communicate effectively on a daily basis with parents, as well as facilitating meeting with parents/Student Planning Teams;
  • Create, instruct, assess and report on appropriate individualized programming for each student;
  • Have the ability to problem-solve complex situations and complex behaviours;
  • Have strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with many departments/partners – Student Services, Transportation, Community Organizations/Programs;
  • Have the knowledge to implement the Inclusive Education policy and the MTSS framework within the ESP program.
