About The Opportunity
WhereTo is looking for a Prototype Engineer to join our prototyping team as we tackle some of the most interesting problems in business travel. WhereTo is a nimble, startup-minded team within the larger company focused on building the next-generation business travel platform that serves two of Flight Centre's main businesses: SMB travel handled by Corporate Traveler and Enterprise travel handled by FCM.
A great fit for this role is someone who is always intrigued by new technology, comfortable working in a fast-paced remote environment, a team player, and someone who is comfortable ideating and building quickly. The ideal candidate thrives in uncertain environments and enjoys the art of the possible.
As a member of the prototyping team, you will work closely with WhereTo leadership to test hypotheses, explore new ideas, and build rapid prototypes for user and market testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with your team and WhereTo leadership to test hypotheses and explore new ideas.
- Translate new ideas into tangible software prototypes.
- Design user interfaces that are representative of the final product.
- Create mockups and interactive UI elements to give stakeholders a visual representation of the software's look and feel.
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand software concepts, requirements, and objectives.
- Help conduct usability testing sessions with end-users or stakeholders to gather feedback on the prototype's user experience.
Experience & Qualifications
- Strong communication skills and ability to articulate ideas clearly.
- Experience with building and architecting high-quality software from scratch.
- Experience in a startup or R&D team is a bonus.
- Skilled in rapid application development techniques and tools that allow quick prototyping, such as low-code/no-code platforms, wireframing tools, or other prototyping software.
- Strong experience with client-side frameworks such as React or Angular.
- Experience building mobile applications — React Native is a bonus.
- Experience with state containers like Redux, Alt, Flux.
- Experience in Agile development and TDD/BDD, with strong TypeScript skills.
- Working knowledge of data science and related technologies is a bonus.
- Experience with AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, CloudFront/CDNs.
- Expertise with Linux, Ubuntu/Debian (BASH scripting a plus).
- Experience with CI platforms such as Jenkins, CircleCI, Travis, etc.
- Experience with REST Web Service API implementation.
- Experience with databases like MySQL/PostgreSQL and understanding of their internals.
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra is desirable.
- Experience with memory cache systems like Redis or Memcached.
- Experience with systems programming languages (Go, C/C++, Rust) and scripting languages (Python), or JVM languages (Scala, Java, Groovy) is a bonus.
- Strong experience in designing scalable architecture and understanding of Git fundamentals.
- Strong understanding of Docker fundamentals.
