Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in environmental consulting with a focus on wetlands.

Job description

• 3+ years experience as an ecologist, specializing in wetlands in the environmental consulting industry
• Degree (B.Sc.), in Biology, Ecology or Natural Sciences (M.Sc. is considered an asset) and registered as, or ability to obtain registration with, one of the PRO-10 in Alberta (e.g., P.Biol.) as set out in the Professional Responsibilities in Completion and Assurance of Wetland Science, Design and Engineering work in Alberta.

As our new Wetland Specialist, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

Job Description

Working closely with our Canada-wide Ecology and Biodiversity Team, you’ll prepare health and safety plans, coordinate field events, conduct the full scope of field work programs (including wildlife surveys, nest sweeps etc.), data management and analysis, and technical report preparation. You will be supported by our team to build skills and proficiencies working with clients and regulators to develop technical scopes of work, prepare proposals, and manage and deliver projects. Success in this role will require the ability to manage competing priorities and assignments, as well as maintain the ability to remain flexible, independent, and possess a significant attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

You will also:

  1. Collect and synthesize scientific literature, existing data sets and secondary source material for technical reports, proposals, and meetings
  2. Lead the execution of field programs across the province
  3. Analyze and interpret data, and prepare technical reports
  4. Identify potential impacts to ecosystems resulting from land use changes, and recommend suitable mitigation to avoid and / or reduce potential impacts
  5. Assist in the development, management, and maintenance of complex technical projects involving client portfolios, schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables
  6. Provide effective leadership, support, and training to junior staff
  7. Provide technical expertise to other technical disciplines within SLR
  8. Build and maintain good working relationships with subconsultants and contractors

Qualifications

  1. Degree (B.Sc.), in Biology, Ecology or Natural Sciences (M.Sc. is considered an asset), and ability to register as a P. Biol.
  2. A minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a special focus in wetlands.
  3. Understanding of Alberta’s Water Act and the Alberta Wetland Policy
  4. Experience in completing desktop assessments and field surveys for wetland assessment for Wetland Assessment and Impact Forms/Reports.
  5. Ability to work with and/or manage multi-disciplinary teams both in Alberta and across Canada
