Job description

Four Wellness Workers (RHSW / IDS / MMIWG) are sought for full-time positions in various regions including FraserSalish, Vancouver Coastal, Northern, and Interior. IRSSS requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and to provide proof of vaccination.

JOB SUMMARY

The Wellness Worker will provide support services to former Indian Residential School (IRS) students and their families, including emotional, cultural, and crisis support, as well as facilitating workshops on culturally safe topics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Attend community events, claim settlements, and court hearings as required.
  2. Provide counselling and emotional support, assist with Wellness Plans, and refer clients to professional services when necessary.
  3. Support at reconciliation and commemorative events.
  4. Coordinate referrals to support and healing programs.
  5. Facilitate healing and mental health workshops.
  6. Build relationships with First Nations health stakeholders and community groups to promote awareness of services.
  7. Maintain confidential client records and prepare reports and work plans.
  8. Participate in training and development activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years of counselling experience with Indigenous clients.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the history and impacts of the Indian Residential School system and related issues.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, own vehicle, and ability to travel extensively.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture is mandatory.
  • Must be double vaccinated and undergo a Criminal Record Check.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Positions are based in Hope, Vancouver, or Prince George, with extensive travel across BC. Salary ranges from $70,075 depending on experience, with benefits including health, dental, wellness days, and retirement savings. The role offers a hybrid work model combining office, workshop, and travel days.
