The Wellness Residence Programming Assistant (Wellness RPA) supports the Transition and Support Coordinators (TSCs) within Housing Services in the development and delivery of wellness-focused initiatives that foster positive mental health and wellbeing within the residence community. This role contributes to a supportive living environment by assisting with proactive programming, peer engagement strategies, and awareness campaigns that algin with institutional mental health goals.

Role:

To assist Transition and Support Coordinators (TSCs), and Residence Life Staff (RLS), in supporting and carrying out various activities and events throughout the Brock Residence community. To support the development of Transition and Support Coordinator Wellness programming within Brock Residence To maintain open communication and manage administrative duties To act as a role model of respect for self, others, and the community To actively participate in fostering a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, reconciliation, and decolonization.

Under the direction of the Transition and Support Coordinators (TSCs) and Residence Life Management Team (RLMT), and in collaboration with the Residence Programming Assistants, the Wellness Residence Programming Assistant will:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the TSCs, assist with the planning, promotion, and facilitation of mental health and wellness programs within residence (e.g., stress reduction events, resource fairs, peer-led workshops, etc.);
  • Work in collaboration with campus partners to help create relevant and engaging programming for Residence students and Residence Life Staff;
  • Work with Ancillary Services Marketing to promote Wellness programming and events;
  • Assist TSCs in creating/writing facilitation guides for Wellness programming;
  • Book event space and other resources required for Wellness events;
  • Work within the allocated budget in ordering necessary supplies;
  • Work with TSCs to post events on ExperienceBU and complete the event risk management processes;
  • Collaborate along side TSCs with residence life staff, student leaders, and campus partners to support holistic wellness and inclusion in community initiatives;
  • Assist the TSCs to Develop creative, student-centered content and resources for wellness campaigns, bulletin boards, and digital platforms (e.g., social media, newsletters);
  • Inventory programming kits;
  • Inventory and organize wellness resources in RLS spaces (i.e. the Decew Resource Centre, Lowenberger Resource Centre, etc);
  • Assess the need for and make recommendations for new supplies and resources;
  • Attend and support events and workshops run by TSCs as needed, including setup, hosting, and tear-down;
  • Participate in tabling, presentations, and information fairs supporting the transition of students to university;
  • Gather feedback from residents and Residence Life Staff, and contribute ideas to enhance future programming;
  • Provide accurate information about on-campus mental health supports and services;
  • Collaborate and work with TSCs and other various on campus resources to support initiatives related to awareness weeks/months (e.g., Mental Health Week, Eating Disorder Awareness Week, etc.);
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions with students;
  • Participate in regular check-ins and training sessions with the supervisor and broader Residence Life team as needed;
  • Support TSCs with administrative or other duties related to the Transition and Support Coordinator portfolio;
  • Track finances and spending related to purchasing;
  • Work with TSCs to prepare and present information about Wellness programming and events to both the Head Residents and Residence Dons;
  • Assist TSCs with administrative tasks surrounding Residence Life Student Staff training and student move in such as welcome letters, signage, training workbook, etc..

What you need to succeed...

  • Organization and attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Resourceful; skilled in researching and compiling data; proficient with computers;
  • Experience in training, education, event planning and/or program development is an asset;
  • Experienced living in a university residence;
  • Awareness of the goals and values of the Brock University Residence community.

The Wellness RPA must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a Brock student;
  • Have knowledge of Residence Community Standards and campus resources;
  • Have experience with living in a post-secondary residence.

Term of Appointment

  • August: 24-35 hours per week
  • September-April: 10-16 hours per week
  • Hourly rate: $17.20/per hour

This position cannot be filled by an active member of the Residence Life Staff due to the number of hours required by both positions during the month of August.
