Job summary

Shawenim Abinoojii Inc. is seeking a Wellness Program Facilitator to deliver culturally relevant programming in community care homes and Winnipeg. You will build partnerships with community leadership and organizations to support children, youth and families from a strengths-based perspective.

The role requires travel to First Nations communities, evenings and weekends as needed, and a commitment to confidentiality and holistic wellness.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of direct experience working with children, youth and families.
  • Preference for candidates residing in the Brokenhead region or willing to travel regularly.
  • Training and/or professional experience working in child development.
  • Knowledge of Southeast First Nations communities is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and ability to work as a team.
  • Confidentiality and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate culturally relevant programs and activities for First Nations children and youth and families.
  • Establish partnerships with communities, resources and service collaterals on and off reserve.
  • Provide timely notice of programming to collaterals and partners.
  • Host activities that support healthy recreation and community engagement.
  • Promote inclusivity and engagement across SAI homes and community events.
  • Maintain program budget and coordinate purchases for supplies.
  • Develop and evolve the program with community and partner organizations.
  • Promote health and wellness to help children, youth, elders and families thrive.
  • Collaborate with the Running White Wolves Youth Council to engage community members.
  • Complete documentation and reports as required.

OVERVIEW:

Reporting to theWellness Program Supervisor, the Wellness Program Facilitator will deliverCultural programing to our Care Homes in community and Winnipeg. The WellnessProgram Facilitator will work from a community cultural development perspectiveto build and maintain working relationships with children, youth and familiesin community. The Wellness Program Facilitator will partner with communityleadership and community organizations to deliver activities aimed at childrenand youth in our Care Homes. The Wellness Program Facilitator will workalongside our partners in service to improve the experiences of children,Elders and families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate culturally relevantprograms and resources aimed to promote recreation and wellness amongst FirstNations Children and Youth and families.
  • Establish positive and effective partnerships withcommunities, resources and service collaterals on and off reserve.
  • Provide notice of programing to all collaterals in atimely fashion.
  • Host activities and events that are responsive tocommunity needs and strengths, for the purpose of supporting healthy recreationand community engagement.
  • Practice inclusion that includes all community membersin events and encourages SAI homes to engage with others at community events.
  • Maintain and update Program budget and coordinate thepurchase of food and activity related supplies for the team.
  • Develop, administer and continue to evolve the programwhile building positive working relationships with community and partneredorganizations.
  • Promote health and wellness, which will help childrenand youth thrive physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
  • Work closely with the Running White Wolves YouthCouncil to engage local community members to help participate in facilitatingprograms.
  • Complete documentation and reports, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2-3 years of direct experience working with children,youth and families.
  • Preference will be given to candidate(s) who reside incommunity or who are willing to travel regularly to Brokenhead, part of theSoutheast Tribal regions.
  • Training and/or professional experience working inchild development.
  • Knowledge and experience working with our SoutheastFirst Nations communities.
  • Personal experience successfully supporting thewholistic wellness of children, young people and families.
  • Strong inter-personal communication skills and able towork as a team.
  • Personable and approachable, with the capacity tobuild effective working relationships.
  • Ability to apply a strengths-based approach to workingwith people with diverse life experiences.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate cultural relevantprogramming/activities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of FirstNations perspectives, culture, and philosophies.
  • Well-developed documentation skills.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be resourceful with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively managemultiple priorities.
  • Must have a clear child and adult abuse registrychecks, criminal record check with vulnerable sector search and PCC, is required.
  • Valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle with asatisfactory driver abstract, is required.
  • Various hours based on the needs of children and youth– days, evenings and weekends.
  • This position includes regularly scheduled travel toFirst Nations communities.
  • Must be able to travel to the communities as requiredby car, boat and plane.
  • Fluent in Anishinaabemowin would be consider an asset.
