The ideal candidate must hold a Red Seal in Welding and have proficiency in CAD software. Qualifications

Job description

The Welding Technician (VRWP) will be responsible taking the design model data and defining the robotic weld sequence on the VRWP. They will work with Welding Engineers/Specialists to develop optimal sequences to minimize distortion. The Welding Technician will lead projects to develop welding and robotic parameters to enable welding of non-standard geometries. The Welding Technician will work with shop floor operators to trouble shoot issues and ensure that productivity is optimized to maintain product quality and project schedule.

Accountable for deliverables in the 3–6-month time frame.

Qualifications
  • Education: Red Seal in Welding or Technical Diploma in relevant subject or similar.
  • Experience of technical design with a focus on development or use of engineering data for automation.
  • Proficient in the use of CAD packages, ideally 3D.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, SharePoint, ability to independently learn to operate new technical software packages.
  • ASNT Level II in Visual Inspection or similar desirable.
  • Understanding of the GMAW/FCAW welding processes.
  • Shipbuilding/manufacturing knowledge related to welding.
  • Demonstrate knowledge relating practical aspects of welding and inspection.
  • Ability to read and understand specifications and structural and outfit drawings.
  • Technical communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in accessible format.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
