Côté Gold is being developed in partnership with the Mattagami First Nation, Flying Post First Nation and Métis Nation of Ontario, Region 3.
The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

Welder
The Welder will be responsible for performing welding and fabrication tasks to maintain, repair, and modify mobile mining equipment, ensuring safety, reliability, and operational efficiency. Working closely with the maintenance team, this role supports continuous improvement in asset performance while adhering to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Equipment Maintenance & Welding Repairs
- Perform structural welding repairs on mining equipment, including haul trucks, excavators, dozers, and drilling rigs.
- Fabricate and install custom metal components for equipment modifications and structural reinforcements.
- Inspect equipment components for cracks, wear, and structural deficiencies, ensuring timely repairs.
- Use various welding techniques, including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and oxy-acetylene cutting.
- Repair high-wear components such as buckets, blades, truck boxes, and undercarriage elements.
- Ensure all welding work meets Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) standards and OEM specifications.
- Perform Ground Engaging Tool (GET) replacement following manufacturer and site procedures.
- Execute field welding repairs, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
Area 2
Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to company safety policies, procedures, and government regulations for mining operations.
- Follow proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
- Report safety concerns, defective equipment, or potential hazards to the supervisor.
- Use and maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices.
- Remove excess grease and debris from equipment to prevent fire hazards before welding.
- Handle welding materials safely, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Area 3
Operational Excellence
- Perform high-quality welding and fabrication work to meet maintenance schedules and reduce equipment downtime.
- Identify and document necessary welding repairs by creating Work Requests (WRs) for planning and execution.
- Continuously assess and implement improvements in welding techniques to enhance equipment longevity and reliability.
- Maintain accurate records of welding tasks, inspections, and completed repairs for tracking and reporting.
Area 4
Work Collaboratively with Others to Deliver Operational Reliability
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure efficient workflow and alignment on repair priorities.
- Share welding expertise by mentoring and supporting team members in best practices and troubleshooting.
- Assist mechanics and millwrights in diagnosing and repairing structural and mechanical failures.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that enhances team performance and operational efficiency.

Job Qualifications
Qualifications & Skill Requirements
Minimum Qualifications, Formal Education, Certifications Or Equivalents
- Trades Certificate or equivalent provincial certification (CWB preferred).
- Equivalent Technical Experience will be considered as well.
Work Experience – Nature & Length
- 5+ years of welding experience in mining, construction, or heavy industry.
- Experience with mobile mining equipment such as haul trucks, loaders, drills, and excavators.
Additional Qualifications – Competency Requirements
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols.
- Experience with high-pressure welding and structural fabrication.
- Ability to weld in various positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead).
- Familiarity with working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and ability to work in a remote mining environment.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Working Environment
This a hands-on position with the majority of the time being spent in the field, with an exposure to the elements.
