Job summary

SMS Equipment Inc. is seeking a Journeyperson Welder to keep mining and heavy equipment operating safely through repair, fabrication, and assembly work. You will work with Komatsu and other equipment, applying your technical expertise to support performance and reliability.

The position offers a base wage of $52.31 per hour with additional premiums, in a 7x7 rotation schedule. You will read blueprints, modify equipment to customer specs, and contribute to failure analysis while maintaining

Qualifications

• Collaborate on failure analysis and develop repair solutions with the Service Manager.
• Provide welding support primarily in the shop, with some field work.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Description

As a Journeyperson Welder, you'll help keep critical mining and heavy equipment operating safely and reliably through high-quality repair, fabrication, and assembly work. We’re looking for someone who is skilled, safety-focused, and committed to craftsmanship in a fast-paced industrial environment.

In this role, you’ll work with Komatsu and other heavy-duty equipment, applying your technical expertise to support equipment performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and enjoys solving complex equipment challenges.

Base Wage: $52.31 per hour. Additional premiums apply

Schedule: 7x7 rotation

What You’ll Do

• Repair, fabricate, and assemble Komatsu and other heavy-duty industrial equipment.
• Interpret and follow layouts, blueprints, drawings, and work orders accurately.
• Modify and customize mobile equipment and components to customer specifications.
• Perform welding repairs to support equipment reliability and performance.
• Participate in failure analysis and collaborate with the Service Manager to develop repair solutions.
• Provide welding support primarily in the shop and occasionally in the field.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
• Complete work efficiently while meeting quality and safety standards.

What You Bring

You bring Journeyperson Welder certification and experience performing welding repairs on heavy industrial or mining equipment. You are committed to safe, high-quality workmanship and can work effectively with minimal supervision in demanding environments.

• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair practices for mining or heavy equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills to support equipment repair and failure analysis.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues and customers.
