JOB DESCRIPTION
Irving Shipbuilding is seeking a Welder, Apprentice in Halifax, NS.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical effort and work conditions:

  • Work at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and operate in confined spaces, in various weather conditions, with extended hours and overtime as needed. Work may be indoors or outdoors.
  • Handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs; occasionally lift items over 50 lbs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding specifications.
  • Perform welding in construction, maintenance, repair, and fabrication environments.
  • Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) in all positions.
  • Select appropriate weld filler materials.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding and flame-cutting equipment.
  • Operate air arc cutting equipment.
  • Set up welding equipment for SMAW and FCAW.
  • Lift, move, or position equipment at work sites.
  • Work within shipbuilding, repair, and steel industry environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational, technical training, or 5+ years of related experience.
  • Demonstrate welding skills through assessments.
  • Welding trade certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Pre-employment physical required.

All applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. ITAR regulations.
