Job summary

Bretoba Contracting Ltd is seeking a skilled welder or welder apprentice to join our construction and fabrication team. You will fabricate, assemble, repair and modify metal components for residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will interpret drawings and welding specifications, operate MIG, flux-core, stick and TIG welding equipment, and work safely in shop and site environments. Valid driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school completion.
  • Completion of a welding apprenticeship or related trade education or welding experience.
  • 1–3 years welding or metal fabrication experience preferred.
  • Welder trade certification or Red Seal endorsement is an asset.
  • Experience with structural steel, custom fabrication, construction welding, or machinery repair is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings and welding specifications.
  • Experience with MIG, flux-core, stick and/or TIG welding processes.
  • Ability to accurately measure, cut, fit, assemble and weld metal components.
  • Strong manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work safely in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Dependable, hardworking, flexible and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
  • English-language ability sufficient to understand instructions, specifications and workplace safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
  • Operate welding equipment to fuse metal using MIG, flux-core, stick or TIG processes.
  • Operate flame-cutting equipment.
  • Operate brazing and soldering equipment.
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and bending machines.
  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.
  • Inspect welds and fabricated components for quality and conformance with specs.
  • Set up and maintain welding and fabrication equipment.
  • Collaborate with carpenters, concrete crews, operators and supervisors.
  • Follow safety procedures and keep a clean work area.
  • Perform other welding, fabrication and construction duties as directed.
  • Cut and prepare metal components; prepare materials/equipment to be welded.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled welder, or welder apprentice to join our construction and fabrication team. The successful candidate will fabricate, assemble, repair and modify metal components for residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable interpreting drawings and welding specifications, operating various welding and metalworking equipment, and completing work safely and accurately in both shop and construction‑site environments. You will work closely with construction teams and assist the skilled tradespeople and contribute to the overall success of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Operate manual or semi‑automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as MIG, flux‑core, stick and/or TIG welding processes
  • Operate manual or semi‑automatic flame‑cutting equipment
  • Operate brazing and soldering equipment
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears and other metal straightening and bending machines
  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers
  • Inspect completed welds and fabricated components for accuracy, quality, strength and conformance with specifications
  • Set up, adjust, clean and perform routine maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment
  • Work collaboratively with carpenters, concrete crews, equipment operators, supervisors and other trades
  • Follow company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
  • Perform other welding, fabrication, repair and construction‑related duties as directed.

Key Qualifications:
  • Completion of secondary school
  • Completion of a welding apprenticeship program or a combination of welding education and directly related trade experience, or welding experience

Wage range:
