Job summary

Kristian Electric Ltd. in Edmonton, AB, is seeking a Journeyman Welder to join our fabrication shop team. You will weld, fit, cut and assemble overhead crane components, working from engineered drawings to support manufacturing of cranes and hoist systems.

The successful candidate will have a certified journeyman welder credential, experience with MCAW/FCAW/SMAW (all positions), and the ability to read welding symbols. Forklift operation and crane experience are assets.

Qualifications

• Certified Journeyman Welder with solid fabrication experience.
• Proficient in MCAW, FCAW, and SMAW (all positions).
• Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and welding symbols.
• Experience with overhead cranes is an asset.
• Forklift operation experience is a plus.

Position Summary

Kristian Electric is seeking a Journeyman Welder to join our Edmonton branch. This role involves working in our fabrication shop, supporting the manufacturing of overhead cranes and hoist systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for high-quality welding and fabrication work, and ensuring all work meets applicable standards and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Welding

• Perform welding, fitting, cutting, and assembly of overhead crane components
• Execute work in accordance with engineered drawings and fabrication blueprints
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality control.
• Interpret welding symbols and engineered drawings accurately
• Ensure all work meets CWB and company quality standards
• Support inspection processes where applicable

General Duties

• Support special projects and shop requirements as needed
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Work collaboratively with shop and field teams to meet project timelines

Core Competencies

• Certified Journeyman Welder with strong fabrication experience
• Proficient in MCAW, FCAW, and SMAW (all positions)
• Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of fabrication techniques
• Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and welding symbols
• Experience with rigging and overhead crane operations considered an asset
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Safety-focused with sound decision-making skills
• Effective communicator with strong teamwork and leadership abilities

CWB Welding Inspector/Supervisor certification is considered a strong asset.

Education & Certification Requirements

• Certified Journeyman Welder
• CWB Certification:
  • FCAW/MCAW - Overhead
• High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2-3 years' experience as a Journeyman Welder
• Experience operating forklifts (certification preferred)
• Experience with overhead cranes considered an asset
• Experience with handheld plasma cutting

Working Conditions

• Physical role requiring lifting up to 50 lbs
• Steel-toed footwear required
• PPE provided as needed
