Job summary

Bonaventure Support Services in Nanaimo is seeking a Community Housing Support Worker to assist adults with daily living and community participation on weekends. The role emphasizes compassionate, person‑centred support and building meaningful relationships with clients and families.

Responsibilities include health and safety, life-skills development, crisis intervention, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Social Services or related field.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities preferred.
• Ability to stay calm in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

• Support adults with daily living activities including health, nutrition, recreation, personal care, and community participation.
• Assist with developing life skills that promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
• Apply positive behavioral strategies and crisis intervention techniques, recognizing behavior as communication.
• Collaborate with families, community partners (MCFD, CLBC, VIHA, Behavior Consultants, etc.), and your team to provide holistic care.
• Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing are always maintained.
• Build strong, respectful relationships with the people you support, their families, and your colleagues.
