Job summary

OMNI Television, part of Rogers Sports & Media, seeks a passionate Part-time Temporary Assignment Editor in Vancouver, BC. You will support newsgathering for special projects and weekends, coordinating resources and editorial focus to deliver lead-worthy content for diverse communities.

The role requires 3 years of newsroom editorial experience, strong writing and communication skills, and the ability to juggle tasks under tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience working in an editorial capacity in a newsroom.
• Field experience as a writer, reporter or producer is an asset.
• Superior communication, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient computer skills and newsroom software knowledge.
• Knowledge of Inception NRCS is an asset but not required.
• Degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting (or equivalent experience).
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Work with producers/bureau managers to assign resources and guide ENG editors on editorial focus.
• Organize and book feeds for newsgathering and coverage.
• Support producers in allocation of resources for special series or daily newsgathering.
• Provide editorial insights to special series or presentations.
• Respond to breaking news quickly and accurately.
• Coordinate coverage with Rogers departments or broadcast partners.
• Liaise with reporters, editors, cameras, and producers on story updates.
• Grow and develop an extensive network of contacts to support newsgathering.
• Stay plugged into social media trends to chase stories.
• Other duties as required.
