Job Description
Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through operation/use of heavy equipment, particularly during seasonal needs (e.g., snow plow operations), and other duties per contract requirements. This role requires a strong safety focus and the ability to recognize hazards and adjust to avoid loss, injury, or accident. You must be able to communicate safety instructions to co-workers and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to your job. This position is for Snow Plow / Seasonal Equipment Operators for the seasonal period of October through April. A minimum of a DZ license is required for this job. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities and Key Deliverables

For Winter Season – Removal of snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads and bridges.

For Summer Season – Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, reflectors, and litter/debris removal.

As Required

  • Traffic control setup and removal
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites
  • Available for emergency response rotations as needed (overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays)
  • All other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Effectively communicate (in English); both orally and in writing with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Follow all policies and procedures consistently.
  • Understand and interpret instructions and documents such as safety rules and operation manuals.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment where demands and priorities change rapidly.
  • Work with hand and power tools, traffic control devices and mobile equipment used for surface and right-of-way maintenance and repair.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years related work experience in construction, road maintenance, or operating equipment with DZ license

Certifications and License:

  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver’s license and acceptable driving record; AZ license a plus

  • Stand, sit, walk, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Operate manual and powered tools and equipment.
  • Vision requirements: close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold; occasional wet/humid conditions; high places; fumes or airborne particles.
  • Frequent exposure to noise; potential exposure to chemicals, insects, and occasional reptiles/rodents.
