Position Summary
Responsible for maintenance, servicing, and repairs of roads and other infrastructure assets. This individual will maintain contracted assets such as roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc., in accordance with contract standards and supervisor instructions.
Note: This role may involve operating equipment for winter or summer road maintenance operations as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and remove traffic control devices to ensure safe Maintenance of Traffic, including cones, message/arrow boards, and temporary signage.
- Work at heights using bucket trucks, scaffolding, ladders, and aerial platforms.
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on bridge structures and equipment rooms, including portals, railings, expansion joints, doors, and painting.
- Maintain the functionality of roadway catch basins, sumps, pumps, fire hydrants, and other mechanical assets using appropriate tools.
- Inspect and repair equipment room ventilation systems.
- Maintain and repair electrical systems such as emergency telephones, CCTV, electronic traffic signs, call boxes, lane signals, and lighting.
- Transport crew and equipment to work sites using large trucks and specialized vehicles and trailers.
- Participate in emergency response rotations, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Maintain and repair highway surfaces, including pothole repair, striping, and reflector replacement.
- Keep highways and medians clean from litter and debris.
- Repair slopes, berms, culverts, and drains using hand and power tools.
- Control vegetation growth with mowing equipment, trimmers, and chemical sprayers.
- Maintain signs, guardrails, fences, and lighting through repair or replacement.
- Remove snow and ice from roadways using appropriate equipment.
- Transport crew and equipment to work sites as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements at all levels.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of underground infrastructure maintenance.
- Practice safe work methods to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Recognize hazards and adjust work practices accordingly.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
- Perform basic math calculations.
- Understand instructions in various formats.
- Read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and procedures.
- Work flexibly and extensively to meet business needs.
- Pay high attention to detail and take ownership of responsibilities.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, and methods used in concrete and asphalt repair and maintenance.
- Skill in using small hand and power tools.
- Interact professionally with the public.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- At least 1 year of experience in infrastructure maintenance preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required.
- Certifications such as CDL, DOT/MTO, Electrical, and Welding are highly desirable.
Work Conditions / Physical Demands
Work Environment
Exposure to traffic, weather extremes, wet/humid conditions, heights, chemicals, insects, and occasionally reptiles/rodents. Noise levels vary from moderate to high.
Physical Demands
Ability to stand, sit, walk, handle tools, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively. Must lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights or in confined spaces. Vision and respirator fit testing may be required.
