Job Description: Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Area Supervisor, assist in maintaining contracted assets such as roadways and vegetation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Remove snow and ice using snow removal equipment
  • Assist with loading/unloading winter materials
  • Maintain highways and surfaces by litter and debris removal
  • Operate vehicles and equipment for surface and right-of-way maintenance

As Required

  • Assist with traffic control setup/removal
  • Transport crew and equipment to sites
  • Be available for emergency response, overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Willing to travel
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effective communication in English, both oral and written
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Interpret instructions and documents such as safety rules and manuals
  • Adapt to changing demands and priorities
  • Work with hand/power tools and equipment used for maintenance
  • Strong safety awareness and hazard recognition
  • Ability to communicate safety instructions
  • Focus on safety while operating tools and equipment
  • Willing to wear PPE as required

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of outdoor work experience in construction, maintenance, or landscaping
  • Experience operating a loader (asset)
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license and good driving record
  • Training in traffic control, first aid, dangerous goods, WHMIS, and occupational health

Work Conditions / Physical Demands

The role requires standing, walking, handling objects, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, and hearing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and operate various manual and powered tools and equipment. Vision requirements include close and distant vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Exposure to weather conditions, humidity, high places, fumes, chemicals, insects, and occasional reptiles/rodents. Noise levels are moderate but can occasionally be higher. The description is not exhaustive and is subject to change.
