Job Description

Position Summary: The incumbent maintains contracted assets (roadways, medians, signs, guardrails, fences, bridges, tunnels, vegetation, etc.) through operation of heavy equipment, especially during seasonal needs (e.g., snow plow operations) and other contract requirements. The role emphasizes safety awareness and hazard recognition to avoid loss, injury or accidents. Clear communication of safety instructions to co‑workers is required, and PPE must be worn as appropriate. This position is for Snow Plow / Seasonal Equipment Operators for the seasonal period of October through April. A DZ license is required.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • For Winter Season: Remove snow and ice using snow removal and/or sanding equipment, including salting and other seasonal maintenance on roads and bridges.
  • For Summer Season: Maintain and repair highway and other surfaces including signs, guardrails, fences, lighting, potholes, striping, reflectors, litter and debris removal.
  • Traffic control setup and removal.
  • Transport crew and equipment to work sites.
  • Availability for emergency response rotations as needed, including overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing, with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Perform basic mathematical functions.
  • Consistently follow all policies and procedures.
  • Understand and interpret written, oral, or diagram instructions and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Adapt to changing demands and priorities in the work environment.
  • Work with hand and power tools, traffic control devices and mobile equipment (tractors, graders, mowers, sweepers, augers, etc.) used for surface and right‑of‑way maintenance and repair.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of related work experience in construction, road maintenance, commercial/industrial repair, operating equipment with a DZ license.
Certifications and License
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ driver's license and acceptable driving record; AZ license is a plus.
Work Conditions / Physical Demands
  • Physical demands include standing, sitting, walking on various surfaces; using hands; reaching; climbing; lifting up to 50 pounds; and using tools and equipment. Vision and depth perception required.
Work Environment
  • Outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals. Noise level usually moderate but can be higher.
