Job description

Pact is looking for a Web Designer with sharp UI instincts – someone who cares about type, spacing, hierarchy, and motion. You notice when a hover state feels a half-beat too slow, and you know why a hero section is or isn't working before you can fully articulate it. This role is hands‑on and craft‑first: you’ll design ecommerce and direct‑to‑consumer site experiences from wireframe through polished, build‑ready files, collaborating closely with our senior designers, developers, and clients.

The ideal candidate pairs pixel‑level interface craft with enough Shopify fluency to design within the platform’s realities – sections, blocks, and reusable modules; theme constraints; how a page template behaves when merchandising changes the content underneath it. UX thinking and branding chops are a real plus and we’ll give you room to grow into them, but interface craft is the core of the job.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design beautiful, high‑performing site experiences that balance brand storytelling with ecommerce best practices
  • Own the interface layer: layout, typography, color, component states, responsive behaviour, and interaction detail
  • Build and extend design systems and component libraries in Figma so work stays consistent across a site and reusable across pages
  • Design in modules – page templates and reusable sections that hold up when a client swaps content, not one‑off compositions
  • Prototype interactions and transitions well enough that developers understand the intent without guessing
  • Account for edge cases – empty states, long product titles, sold‑out variants, mobile breakpoints – before handoff
  • Prepare clean, well‑organized, annotated files and support developers through build and QA
  • Contribute to site audits and design recommendations grounded in analytics and UX best practice
  • Present and explain your design decisions clearly to internal teams and clients
  • Take feedback well, iterate quickly, and keep quality high across several projects at once
REQUIREMENTS

Shopify Experience

  • Hands‑on Shopify experience – you’ve designed for Shopify themes and understand how sections, blocks, and modular templates shape what’s practical to build
  • 3+ years designing for the web, ideally at an ecommerce agency, a scaling DTC brand, or in‑house on a commerce team
  • Familiarity with how merchandising and content changes affect a live storefront over time

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Figma skills: components, variants, auto layout, and libraries used properly, not decoratively
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong UI craft – considered typography, confident layout, and attention to detail at the component level
  • Current, working knowledge of desktop and mobile web standards, accessibility basics, and performance‑aware design decisions
  • Solid interaction and prototyping instincts, and the judgment to know when motion adds value and when it’s noise
  • Bonus if you have UX research and audit experience – usability reviews, user flows, analytics‑informed recommendations
  • Bonus if you have branding and visual identity work under your belt, including art direction and asset design
  • Bonus if you’re experienced with motion or 3D tooling

Professional Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present and defend design decisions to internal teams and clients
  • The ability to hold recognized standards and memorable, award‑worthy design in the same hand
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to keep quality high across several projects at once
  • Openness to feedback and the ability to iterate quickly without losing the thread of the original idea
  • Comfort with ambiguity and unclear client briefs
