About the Role

Toronto Animal Services is hiring a Web Content Coordinator to help shape how we engage with the public and promote animal welfare across our digital platforms. This role involves creating, managing, and enhancing content that supports our programs, services, and public education efforts. Join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of animals and people across Toronto.

Working Conditions

As this role is based in an animal shelter environment, candidates should be aware that they will be exposed to animal noise, fur/dander, and odours. Candidates will also be in direct contact with all species of animals in our care. We want to ensure all interested applicants are comfortable with and informed about these working conditions.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Writes and edits creative copy for various media including the Internet, intranet, social media, multimedia presentations, and promotional tools.
  2. Ensures content on division's internet and intranet sites is accurate, current, and well-integrated. Evaluates web use statistics and client feedback.
  3. Provides expertise and develops guidelines for information structure within applications and systems.
  4. Consults with business units, supports project teams, and develops workflows for content maintenance and development.
  5. Plans and conducts user interviews and usability tests.
  6. Creates user personas, experience scenarios, and test cases.
  7. Develops and monitors adherence to web standards, style guides, metadata, and classification systems.
  8. Maintains content libraries with text, graphics, videos, and audio.
  9. Trains content providers in web writing standards and develops training materials.
  10. Assists with marketing and communication strategies across channels, including social media.
  11. Supports development of new web products and services.
  12. Ensures compliance with legal and legislated standards, including privacy, trademarks, copyright, and accessibility laws.
Key Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in content creation, digital marketing, and social media management.
  • Experience writing online content aligned with corporate standards and maintaining brand consistency.
  • Proficiency with at least five tools from Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Hootsuite, or related.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s Licence and ability to obtain City Operator’s Permit.
  • Ability to travel across Toronto.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and stay current with trends.
  • Comfort working in an animal shelter environment and knowledge of animal welfare practices.
  • Knowledge of web analytics, digital accessibility, content management systems, and relevant legislation.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
