The Wealth Planning Support Team (WPST) is a business unit within BMO Wealth Planning, Trust & Advisory Services, dedicated to providing advisory, planning solutions, and Subject Matter Expertise support to BMO Wealth Professionals around the wealth planning process. We leverage a team approach to deliver innovative and customized wealth planning solutions designed to assess overall wealth management needs and recommend strategies to help clients preserve, enhance, transfer, and protect their wealth.

The Wealth Planning Advisor (WPA) is responsible for providing financial planning support to Private Wealth Professionals, BMO Nesbitt Burns & BMO Private Banking. Providing subject matter expertise on a broad range of planning strategies, including investment and retirement planning, transition planning, estate planning, personal taxation, insurance, and wealth planning strategies for corporations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support BMO Wealth Planning and Advisory Team’s Centralized planning platform by preparing and creating financial plans and updating requests sent by frontline planners. Collaborate with Investment Advisors, Investment Counsellors, and Private Bankers to create financial plans for clients.
  • Participate in client discovery processes and present plans to clients.
  • Provide expertise to all wealth planning professionals through the enterprise, including technical support around BMO WealthPath and coaching on wealth planning.
  • Respond to escalated inquiries from the WPST team and cases requiring complex product, technical, taxation, or estate planning knowledge.
  • Partner with HNW Wealth Planning Consultants, providing technical support for software tools.
  • Contribute to enterprise-wide teams and programs with financial planning expertise.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes affecting wealth planning and financial industry trends.
  • Develop skills in complex planning techniques such as executive compensation, trusts, corporate structures, and insurance.
Subject Matter Expertise (20%)
  • Provide expertise to Wealth Professionals and enterprise initiatives.
  • Support frontline planners via phone, email, and virtual meetings.
  • Maintain awareness of legislative and industry changes impacting financial planning.
  • Assist in developing tools and materials to promote financial planning adoption.
Business Processes & Operations (10%)
  • Maintain quality review processes for the front line handbook.
  • Identify business requirements for WealthPath and participate in user acceptance testing for upgrades.
Knowledge & Skills
  • At least 4+ years of financial planning experience with client contact or advisory support, plus investment industry knowledge.
  • Bilingual in French and English.
  • Strong understanding of advanced financial planning concepts and modeling software.
  • Professional Planning Designation – IQPF required.
  • Proficiency with WealthPath or similar planning software.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, collaboration, analytical, and influence skills.
  • Results-oriented and client-focused.
  • Hybrid work model (in-office and remote).

This role supports clients and team members inside and outside Quebec, requiring fluency in both French and English.
