We are hiring a Communications Assistant – Manitoba Eco-Network

Are you passionate about the environment? Want to work at an environmental non-profit organization with a forty-year history?

The Manitoba Eco-Network (MbEN) is a non-profit registered charity that seeks to strengthen Manitoba’s environmental community with the goal of protecting our environment for the benefit of current and future generations. MbEN serves as an umbrella for environmental non-governmental organizations across the province.

We build capacity and support grassroots organizations’ participation in the environmental community. We celebrate positive environmental actions within Manitoba and work to elevate the voices of all community members. MbEN facilitates connections, engages in advocacy, and undertakes community-based research to promote meaningful public participation in environmental governance processes.

We are looking for a summer student to join our team as a Communications Assistant. Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Responding to phone calls and emails from member organizations and the public;
  2. Tabling at community events;
  3. Writing and distributing the monthly eco-bulletin;
  4. Preparing social media videos, graphics, and posts;
  5. Updating the website, including writing website copy;
  6. Researching environmental policy issues as assigned;
  7. Performing various administrative tasks;
  8. Other work as directed.

Experience with graphic design, website design, and social media will be considered assets but is not required. We are happy to provide training to the right candidate.

A passion for environmental issues is a prerequisite.

The position will be based in our office at 302-583 Ellice, with remote work options available if needed. The position is 35 hours per week at $19 per hour for a duration of 9 weeks. Funding is provided by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • Legally entitled to work according to provincial/territorial legislation. International students are not eligible.

MbEN is committed to an inclusive, accessible workplace. Please inform us if you require accommodations during the recruitment process or employment.

We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply, especially women, people of color, LGBTQ2S+ communities, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. If you are interested but do not meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply.

Please send your CV and cover letter to James Beddome at: executivedirector@mbeconetwork.org by May 21, 2025. In your cover letter, share why you are passionate about protecting the environment and how you stay informed about environmental issues. Feel free to self-identify in your application.
