We are looking for an experienced Wayside Technical Discipline Lead who will ensure that the delivery of the Systems and Wayside design packages is managed appropriately through construction by acting as the interface between Design and Construction. The Technical Discipline Lead will organize and review Construction team inquiries and change proposals prior to those inquiries and change proposals flowing to the Engineers of Record for formal dispositioning. They also serve to track and report on workflow progression to closure and triage urgent construction needs to ensure project targets are met.

Main Responsibilities
  • Review Site Queries for completeness by providing technical ties to the Project Assignment requirements.
  • Monitor Site Query backlog for aging and hold regular construction team interface meetings to communicate the current state of EOR reviews while triaging special requests as required.
  • Understand the activities of the various project teams to identify and manage risks, ensure project procedures are followed, and maintain good technical governance.
  • Review and process Construction Submittal workflows to the responsible Engineer of Record ensuring timely reviews to support the construction schedule.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to Construction teams constructing the Systems and Wayside design packages.
  • Identify technical issues early and facilitate solutions to prevent impacts on the construction schedule.
  • Support Project Leads in managing technical interfaces, coordination, and multidisciplinary technical interfaces across disciplines at a project level.
  • Interface between design and construction to manage and resolve issues from inception to closure, ensuring deviations are addressed appropriately to maintain project risk profile and technical compliance.
  • Understand design review and approval requirements to participate in record drawing, assist with construction certification, and assemble turnover records as construction progresses.
  • Participate in design team meetings, briefings, and project reviews as required.
  • Lead risk management throughout the project, ensuring technical and commercial risks are identified and mitigation strategies are implemented and agreed upon.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline (Electrical, Civil, etc.)
  • Minimum five years of professional experience, especially in delivering public infrastructure megaprojects
  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems and wayside equipment best practices
  • Knowledge of Alberta regulations, design codes, standards, and statutory regulations
  • Experience with construction information management protocols such as RFIs, vendor shop drawings, design change management, and non-conformance resolution
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and complex drawings to understand design intent
  • Experience with operational concepts for light rail work, including grounding, bonding, stray current control, system connectivity, cabling, and testing

  • Physical ability to navigate construction sites, including climbing stairs and ladders, and working outdoors in various weather conditions
