Job summary

CKB Construction is seeking a field helper to assist water and sewer crews in Edmonton. You will perform grade work with transit, read drawings, and help install shoring systems under the Foreman’s supervision, while maintaining safety and efficiency on site.

The role involves manual labor outdoors, operating basic equipment, and coordinating with crew members. Overtime opportunities are available as projects require.

Qualifications

• Experience reading drawings and performing grade work with transit.
• Ability to perform manual labor in outdoor conditions and dusty/noisy environments.
• Willingness to work OT and follow safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Shoot grade with transit
• Read and interpret drawings
• Assist in the construction and installation of shoring systems
• Perform manual and labour-intensive tasks as assigned
• Guide excavator and take shots to achieve desired depth of excavation
• Assist Foreman with daily paperwork, organizing of crew/subcontractors
• Direct traffic as required
• Load and unload tools, materials and equipment
• Cut & bevel pipe
• Operate industrial equipment and hand tools
• Direct and signal heavy equipment operators
• Other duties as assigned
• Install and repair a variety of water and sewer lines

Summary of Position

Reporting to the project Foreman, this position will assist all field personnel to perform all water and sewer activities in a safe and efficient manner.

Role and Responsibilities

• Shoot grade with transit
• Read and interpret drawings
• Assist in the construction and installation of various shoring systems
• Perform manual and labour-intensive tasks as assigned
• Guide excavator and take shots to achieve desired depth of excavation
• Assist Foreman with daily paperwork, organizing of crew/subcontractors
• Instruct and guide crew on job task & mentor inexperienced workers
• Direct traffic as required
• Load and unload tools, materials and equipment
• Cut & bevel pipe
• Operate industrial equipment and hand tools
• Direct and signal heavy equipment operators
• Other duties as assigned
• Install and repair a variety of water and sewer lines

Qualifications, Training and Education

• Class 5 driver’s license (preferred)
• CSTS 2020
• Confined Space Monitor/Entry & Rescue
• Rigging & Hoisting (asset)
• Fall Protection
• Crane Signals course/experience (asset)

Working Conditions

Physically demanding, handling heavy loads, bending, crouching, kneeling, attention to detail, standing for extended periods, manual lifting and lowering. The work environment is dusty, noisy, outdoors, Underground, and potentially working in confined space/restricted space
