Opportunity

Stantec has an opportunity for a Senior Team Lead for our Water Resources Team with experience in being a people leader to join our Environmental Services team. The position will ideally be located in either Burnaby, Victoria, or Sidney, British Columbia or Whitehorse, Yukon. There is flexibility to be based out of our other offices in British Columbia. The successful candidate will report to the Business Centre Leadership and be responsible for the leadership and further growth of an existing multi-disciplinary team of hydrologists, hydrogeologists, geochemists and water resources engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead by example and promote a vibrant and strong health and safety culture in the team.
  • Daily management and operational leadership of the Water Resources Team, with direct reports of up to 12 Environmental Services professionals.
  • Encourage a positive and engaging workplace that attracts, grows, and retains high quality staff.
  • Monitor staff utilization and availability, contribute to Project resourcing and work with Discipline Leads, Project Managers and Technical Leaders to resource staff appropriately to projects and initiatives.
  • Work with other team leads on team professional development and other matters related to the broader Water Resources Team.
  • Address personnel issues as they arise through collaboration with the other team leads, Human Resources business partner, and Business Centre Leadership.
  • Lead recruitment and hiring of new staff including identifying candidates, reviewing resumes, and participating in interviews.
  • Lead in the annual compensation review process for the Water Resources Team.
  • Conduct Year End Conversations, mid-year reviews and team ad-hoc check-ins. Integrate team members’ career goals into training opportunities and project resourcing.
  • Develop or facilitate coaching or mentoring relationships with team members to support alignment of their professional challenges and career plans.
  • Continue to complete technical project work as part of the Water Resources Team in Environmental Services.
Capabilities and Credentials
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in one of the Environmental Services water resources fields (i.e., hydrology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, water resources engineering); consulting experience preferred.
  • A results-oriented individual who excels in a multi-disciplinary environment. Strong leadership, financial management, business development, communication and team building skills are essential for the candidate to meet the expectations of this position.
  • The candidate will have a desire to succeed, be enthusiastic, positive, and possess a high degree of integrity.
  • Superior and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Has demonstrated the ability and desire to work with and contribute to a larger team.
  • Previous leadership or people management experience is required, with a strong preference for previous experience as a team lead.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a degree in Environmental Sciences with a speciality in water resources (e.g., Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences) or Engineering, preference may be given to those with advanced degrees.
  • Professional registration in one of the above disciplines is required and registered with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (P.Geo. or P.Eng.) or qualifications to obtain this registration at the start of employment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, which must include relevant consulting experience in water resources, experience in the mining sector would be an asset.
Working Conditions

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 25 kilograms.

Pay Range
  • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $121,500.00 - Max Salary $182,200.00
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $128,800.00 - Max Salary $193,100.00
