Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, water resources or environmental engineering or related field.
  • EIT designation or eligibility to obtain EIT status within six months.
  • 0–3 years of entry-level engineering experience.
  • Understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and drainage engineering.
  • Experience with transportation infrastructure involving culverts, bridges, sewers, and municipal drainage.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and design deliverables.
  • Knowledge of Civil 3D design environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in French.
  • Valid G-class driver's license and willingness to travel Ontario-wide.

Responsibilities

  • Support hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for transportation projects including drainage systems and sewer networks.
  • Prepare drainage plans and technical deliverables using Civil 3D workflows.
  • Develop drainage reports, hydrology assessments, and inspection documentation.
  • Conduct field investigations and measurements along transportation corridors.
  • Complete quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and schedule development for design work.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Assist with proposal writing and engineering services submissions.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets; contribute to project controls.
  • Support project management for small- to medium-sized engineering tasks.
  • Prepare tender documents and construction-related documentation.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships throughout project delivery.
  • Review evolving standards and contribute to technical solutions.
  • Participate in construction support activities and data collection across Ontario.

Job Description

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) – Water Resource EIT supports the planning, analysis, design, and delivery of water resources infrastructure projects in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The role contributes to multidisciplinary transportation assignments involving drainage systems, culverts, sewers, bridges, and related hydraulic infrastructure, while collaborating with internal and external project teams throughout design and construction phases.

Responsibilities include hydrologic and hydraulic assessments, preparation of technical reports, development of engineering drawings, field investigations, quantity calculations, tender documentation, and coordination of project deliverables. The position also supports proposal development, schedule monitoring, budget tracking, and stakeholder engagement within a transportation engineering environment.

The ideal candidate possesses an academic background in civil, water resources, or environmental engineering, demonstrates strong analytical capabilities, and has exposure to transportation drainage and stormwater management projects. Regular field work across Ontario, including Northern Ontario assignments, forms a key component of the role.

  • Support hydrologic and hydraulic analysis for transportation infrastructure projects, including drainage systems, culverts, bridges, and sewer networks.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, drainage plans, and technical deliverables using Civil 3D design workflows.
  • Develop drainage reports, hydrology assessments, culvert inspection reports, and supporting technical documentation.
  • Perform field investigations and site measurements within watercourses and along transportation corridors.
  • Complete quantity take-offs, construction cost estimates, and schedule development activities for design assignments.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design deliverables with internal teams, consultants, agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Support proposal writing and engineering services submissions for transportation and municipal infrastructure opportunities.
  • Monitor project schedules and budgets and contribute to project controls activities.
  • Assist with project management functions for small- and medium-scope engineering assignments.
  • Prepare tender documents, contract specifications, and construction-related documentation.
  • Maintain stakeholder coordination and professional client relationships throughout project delivery.
  • Review evolving engineering standards, assess project requirements, and contribute to technical solution development.
  • Participate in construction support activities and provide technical input during project implementation.
  • Travel throughout Ontario to conduct site inspections, field assessments, and data collection activities.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation, or eligibility to obtain EIT status within six months.
  • 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience consistent with an entry-level EIT position.
  • Understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and drainage engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of transportation infrastructure projects involving culverts, bridges, sewers, and municipal drainage systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, engineering calculations, inspection documentation, and design deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D design environments.
  • Strong technical analysis, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French.
  • Valid Class G driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout Ontario, including Northern Ontario field assignments.
  • Ability to perform field work involving uneven terrain, steep slopes, and watercourse access.
Assets

  • Exposure to transportation corridor drainage design projects.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with construction inspection, contract administration, or construction support services.
  • Knowledge of municipal infrastructure planning and design processes.
