JOB SUMMARY

The Water Production branches operate and maintain the City's two water purification plants and the corresponding East or West remote pumping stations, reservoirs and communal well systems.

You provide technical support in the process control and plant operations through problem solving, analyzer calibration and maintenance, special studies, analysis of plant performance, data analysis, writing technical reports, and providing recommendations to the branch.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year community college diploma or university degree in chemistry, biology, or environmental science

Minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in water/waste water treatment, environmental laboratory, or environmental science

KNOWLEDGE

• Water treatment plant operations and process control techniques
• Ontario Drinking Water Objectives and current regulations regarding drinking water quality
• Chemistry, physics (hydraulics) and mathematics, including both Imperial and Metric measure
• Testing procedures for water quality
• Personal computers and their use
• RMOC policies and procedures

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Work effectively with internal and external contacts
• Log pertinent data, maintain complete and accurate log book(s)
• Deal effectively with multiple demands and conflicting priorities
• Plan, implement, control, and complete projects as assigned with minimal supervision

• Apply scientific method to carry out technical studies and solve process problems

• Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
• Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
• You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
