The department of Environment and Climate Change is looking to fill a Water Quality Data Specialist position.

Qualifications:
Essential:
- A degree or diploma in an aquatic-related discipline with expertise in analytical chemistry, biology, and data science. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Experience with database management including tools such as Microsoft Access, Oracle spatial, and Structured Query Language (SQL) server.
- Experience with data analysis using R software and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience using GIS software (ESRI ArcGIS) for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced information and using GIS web services.
- Experience with contract management with the ability to manage a large program operating budget including tracking monthly expenses and invoices, and providing monthly projections for cash flows.
- Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal colleagues and external collaborators and clients.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and archive files.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts and laboratory methods to various audiences.
- Strong problem solving skills with keen attention to detail and ability to resolve technical issues.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to prepare correspondence documents and technical/scientific data reports for a wide-ranging audience.
Desired:
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of methods for collecting environmental samples.
- Verbal and written proficiency in French.
Duties:
The Water Quality Data Specialist provides specialized analytical chemistry and biology expertise to the Water Quality Management Section to support the delivery of province-wide water quality management programming. This role involves the management of laboratory services for multiple departments, including acting as the liaison to resolve issues. The incumbent also leads the implementation of the Water Quality component of the Provincial Environmental Management System (EMS) database and is responsible for ensuring quality assurance and control of these data. The incumbent should seek opportunities to improve processes and explore/adopt new tools to expand and enhance analytical capabilities. The incumbent supports section staff in the use of laboratory data by acting as a resource person on the use of relevant technology and software, and identifying, evaluating, and recommending new technologies for data storage, retrieval, analysis, and display. Additionally, the incumbent responds to water quality data requests from internal and external partners and agencies.
