City of Owen Sound is seeking a motivated Water Distribution Operator to join our Water & Wastewater team. Reporting to the Water Distribution Superintendent, you will operate, maintain and repair the distribution system to deliver safe drinking water to the community.

The role requires the appropriate certification and experience in municipal water distribution, on-call rotations, and commitment to provincial regulations and safety.

Qualifications

• College Diploma in a related field or Grade 12 with relevant experience and certification.
• Ministry of the Environment Water Distribution System Operator Certification.
• Water Distribution Level II Certification or higher preferred.
• Previous experience in a municipal water distribution environment.
• Experience operating construction and maintenance equipment related to water distribution systems.

Responsabilités

• Operate, maintain, and repair water distribution infrastructure, including mains, valves, hydrants, services, PRVs, and meters.
• Install, inspect, and maintain fire hydrants and related infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and repair water leaks throughout the distribution system.
• Assist with inspections and routine operations at reservoirs, pumping stations, valve chambers, and the Water Treatment Plant.
• Participate in planned maintenance and emergency system shutdowns or bypasses as required.

WhatYou’llDo

WaterDistributionOperations&Maintenance

• Operate,maintain,andrepairwaterdistributioninfrastructure,includingwatermains,valves,hydrants,waterservices,pressureregulatingvalves,andwatermeters.
• Install,inspect,andmaintainfirehydrantsandassociatedinfrastructure.
• Troubleshootandrepairwaterleaksthroughoutthedistributionsystem.
• Assistwithinspectionsandroutineoperationsatreservoirs,pumpingstations,valvechambers,andtheWaterTreatmentPlant.
• Participateinplannedmaintenanceactivitiesandemergencysystemshutdownsorbypassesasrequired.

EquipmentOperation&InfrastructureSupport

• Safelyoperateequipmentandvehiclesusedinwaterdistributionmaintenance,includingbackhoes,dumptrucks,tappingmachines,leakdetectionequipment,andutilitylocatingequipment.
• Locateundergroundwaterinfrastructure,streetlighting,andtrafficsignalassets.
• Assistwithwintermaintenanceofhydrants,includingsnowclearingandinspections.
• Performtrafficcontrolactivitiesandroadclosurecoordinationasrequired.
• Supportsnowclearingoperationsonsidewalksandroadwayswhenneeded.

CustomerService&EmergencyResponse

• Respondtocustomerinquiriesandservicerequestsrelatedtoflooding,waterserviceinterruptions,leaks,lowpressure,frozenservices,andotherdistributionconcerns.
• Participateinarotatingon-callscheduletorespondtoafter-hoursemergencies.
• Assistinmaintainingreliablewaterserviceduringemergenciesandplannedmaintenanceactivities.
• Workcollaborativelywithcontractors,Citystaff,regulatoryofficials,andthepublic.

Compliance,Documentation&AssetManagement

• Maintainaccuratelogs,records,servicecards,fieldnotes,anddistributionsystemdocumentation.
• UpdateGISrecordsanddistributionsysteminformationwheninfrastructurechangesoccur.
• Completerequiredregulatoryandoperationaldocumentation.
• ParticipateinongoingtrainingandcertificationrequirementsinaccordancewithProvincialregulations.
• SupportcontinuousimprovementandassetmanagementinitiativeswithintheWaterDistributionSystem.
