Job summary

Stantec in Dartmouth, NS is seeking a Co‑op Student to join our water resources team. You will support our process and treatment group delivering design services for municipal and industrial clients, including sectors such as mining, paper, food & beverage, power, oil & gas, and manufacturing.

Ideal candidates are motivated students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering with an interest in water/wastewater treatment and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a university Bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering or related field.
• Interest or experience in water/ wastewater treatment or water-related fields.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Holds a valid drivers' license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in project administration: writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals and correspondence.
• Assist staff with data collection, analysis and reporting for water and wastewater projects.
• Support pump sizing, pipe sizing and equipment sizing calculations.
• Perform simple calculations and data analysis.
• Help with other engineering/administrative duties as needed.

Your Opportunity

As a Co‑op Student, you will support our fast‑growing process and treatment team that provides water supply and treatment design services for our clients in both the municipal and industrial realms, including industrial practices such as Mining, Pulp & Paper, Food & Beverage, Power, Oil & Gas, and Manufacturing.

Candidates should be highly motivated and dependable students who are taking courses or have a strong interest in water resources, wastewater treatment or water treatment related fields. This is a terrific opportunity for a college or university student to support a number of exciting local and national projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Assisting in project administration including writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, tracking project costs, and completing progress reports
• Assisting technical staff with various project tasks, including researching, compiling and evaluating project data, preparing reports and performing calculations for water and wastewater process treatment projects
• Assisting technical staff with minor calculation and design activities including pump sizing, pipe sizing and equipment sizing.
• Performing simple calculations and data analysis
• Complete other engineering/administrative duties as required

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience or interest in using process simulation modelling (hydraulic modelling, BioWin, Aspen/HYSYS etc.)
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and take direction
• Ability to perform field activities and periodic inspections of water / wastewater projects during construction in a safe manner
• Holds a valid drivers’ license

Education and Experience

• In progress toward earning a University Bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering or related field
• Relevant coursework or exposure to one or more of the following: water and wastewater treatment processes, process engineering, hydraulics, process control, water chemistry, biological treatment systems, facility design (piping systems, pumping systems, treatment equipment), or industrial water treatment applications.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
