About Our Opportunity

Working alongside a dynamic and diverse team of passionate scientists, engineers and technicians whose work drives the protection and stewardship of our province’s water resources, you play a critical role in ensuring responsible development that protects public health and the environment for Nova Scotians.

As a Wastewater Engineer, you will have the opportunity to guide provincial programs, support regulatory decision-making, and shape policy.

Primary Accountabilities

As a Wastewater Program Lead, you will:

  • Lead and innovate in the development of regulatory amendments, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures and internal training tools to support government priorities.
  • Provide technical expertise in reviewing technical reports and submissions received in support of regulatory requirements for residential, municipal and industrial projects.
  • Think critically using your engineering education and experience to give advice that is practical, correct, and considers both technical and socioeconomic impacts.
  • Communicate effectively to a broad range of audiences as you collaborate with public stakeholders, industry associations, or national or provincial committees on wastewater related issues.
  • Engage and mentor staff, fostering a team that encourages innovation and growth.

Qualifications And Experience

You are an experienced engineer looking to take on a high profile and impactful role that will make a difference for people and communities across the province.

You are a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensed to practice in Nova Scotia, or eligible to be licensed in Nova Scotia, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering. To ensure you are successful in this role you have at least six (6) years of applied experience in wastewater collection, treatment, and management for various wastewater types, such as municipal, private, and industrial.

You have excellent writing and speaking skills that help you explain complicated technical details clearly to both experts and non-experts.

You can manage multiple projects and adapt in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities, have excellent organizational skills, and demonstrate sound decision-making skills.

The Following Will Be Considered Assets

  • Strong computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing and presentation packages.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, regulations, policies and programs relevant to wastewater management in Nova Scotia.
  • Experience managing projects, including interdisciplinary teams, and external contacts.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: PR 18

Salary Range: $3,231.58 - $3,800.42 Bi-Weekly
