OFNTSC is seeking a Water and Wastewater Engineer to provide professional engineering services to Ontario First Nations. You will assess, design and review water and wastewater systems, deliver technical reports, and support regulatory reporting and compliance.

The role requires a P.Eng. in Ontario, a civil engineering degree, and 7+ years of experience in municipal water/wastewater projects. Travel across Ontario is expected. The organization emphasizes diversity and confidentiality.

Water and Wastewater Engineer

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario. By offering a wide range of specialized services and expertise, OFNTSC helps to enhance the quality of life, promote technical self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth within these communities.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Water and Wastewater Engineer to join our team at OFNTSC. Under the guidance of the Manager of Engineering, the Water and Wastewater Engineer will provide technical advisory and professional engineering services to Ontario First Nations. The role provides expertise in all aspects of water and wastewater systems, including water supply, treatment and distribution, and sewage collection. Responsibilities include conducting assessment studies, preparing technical reports, and reviewing studies, designs, and other technical work completed by consultants.

These tasks must be executed in alignment with the culture and values of OFNTSC while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

• Provide professional engineering and technical advisory services related to water and wastewater systems, including water supply, treatment and distribution, sewage collection, treatment and disposal, and other municipal infrastructure.
• Conduct assessments, investigations, and condition assessments, and prepare clear, professional technical reports and recommendations.
• Prepare, review, and manage engineering reports, technical documentation, and project deliverables.
• Assist in developing Terms of Reference, scopes of work, and project requirements for various phases of water and wastewater projects.
• Review and provide technical input on feasibility studies, designs, specifications, and other work prepared by consultants.
• Participate in project teams and support the successful delivery of water and wastewater projects that meet the needs and priorities of First Nation communities.
• Provide technical assistance to First Nations in meeting wastewater effluent monitoring and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Provide technical advice to First Nations and Tribal Councils regarding compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines.
• Support First Nations in addressing technical issues related to the operation, maintenance, design, and construction of water and wastewater systems.
• Assist with the planning and delivery of conferences, workshops, training sessions, and other technical events.
• Act as a liaison between First Nations, Tribal Councils, government agencies, consultants, and other stakeholders.
• Support OFNTSC clients in identifying and pursuing funding opportunities through federal and provincial programs and other funding sources.
• Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario and in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in the assessment, planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure within municipal or First Nation communities.
• Strong technical knowledge of water treatment systems, processes, and infrastructure.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater system planning, regulatory requirements, and applicable codes, standards, and guidelines.
• Understanding of the technical, financial, and economic considerations associated with water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Strong technical writing, report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Project management and technical advisory experience is an asset.
• Experience working with First Nation communities is considered an asset.

Conditions:

• Some out-of-town traveling is required to First Nations communities throughout Ontario.
• Reliable and insured vehicle and a valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.
