Job summary

Maple Leaf Foods in Canada is seeking a Warehouse Supervisor to oversee shipping, receiving and warehousing operations, managing a unionized hourly workforce compliant with HACCP/CFIA standards. You will coordinate with supervisors and staff to ensure on-time customer orders and safe, efficient operations.

Qualifications include 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized environment, strong leadership and communication skills, and knowledge of Saskatchewan labour laws.

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized warehouse environment.
  • 5 to 7 years experience in a diverse, unionized warehouse environment.
  • College Diploma or equivalent education preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of warehouse operations and leadership in a union context.
  • Ability to lead under a collective agreement and manage payroll/timekeeping.
  • Familiarity with Saskatchewan Labour Laws and Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate shipping, receiving and warehousing of product to meet customer orders.
  • Manage an hourly unionized workforce with fair application of policies and safety standards.
  • Interface with carriers to ensure efficient loading/unloading of trailers.
  • Interview candidates with HR to recruit warehouse staff.
  • Coach, discipline and terminate staff as needed per policy and HACCP/CFIA rules.
  • Record employee hours and manage attendance and payroll inputs.
  • Address employee grievances per company policy and the collective agreement.
  • Ensure staff training on health & safety policies and job duties.

Job description

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Distribution Lead Supervisor and managing a complement of hourly employees in conjunction with other supervisors or individually as operations warrant, the Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for the shipping, receiving, and warehousing of product in accordance with company and HACCP / CFIA standards and requirements in a timely, efficient and effective manner to meet customer demand.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
  • Coordinate the shipping, receiving, warehousing of product, order picking and cycle counts with other supervisors, office staff and management to ensure all customer orders are shipped on time in accordance with customer specifications;
  • As assigned on a rotating basis between supervisors, provide required operational performance and delivery information to the Distribution Lead Supervisor and Distribution Warehouse Manager
  • Manage an hourly workforce of unionized employees in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with company policies, procedures and the collective agreement to deliver operational and work environment objectives including communications, safety, training, performance management, work assignment, attendance management, competency assessment, coaching, and discipline;
  • Manage all issues with carriers to ensure the efficient unloading and loading of trailers;
  • Ensure adequate workforce resources are available for operational delivery and proposed additions/reductions to the Distribution Lead Supervisor to acquire / reduce resources accordingly;
  • Interview prospective candidates in conjunction with Human Resources to acquire the required talent to strengthen the warehouse workforce;
  • Coach, discipline and terminate, where required, those employees who do not meet company performance expectations or who chose to disregard company policy and HACCP/CFIA requirements for the proper handling of product, informing the Distribution Lead Supervisor and Human Resources when such actions are proposed;
  • Ensure all warehouse employees reporting to the Supervisor are properly trained in health & safety policy / procedures and the duties and responsibilities of their current role;
  • Record employee hours worked into the payroll system to ensure timely wage payment to employees for hours worked;
  • Manage all employee issues and grievances in accordance with company policy and the collective agreement in conjunction with Human Resources and management;
  • Other work as assigned by management.
  • MWDC Shifts run multiple shifts 7 days a week, including evening, overnight and weekend shifts. Successful candidates are required to have flexibility in working hours.
Position Outcomes:
  • Shipping of customer orders in a timely manner in accordance with customer specifications and expectations
  • Optimal and accurate order picking to ensure the timely loading of customer orders
  • Organized management of shift operations
  • Productive and engaged workforce that is properly informed of shift objectives, changes in the organization and employee events
  • Orchestrated collaboration of operational activities between shifts to ensure warehouse operations are performed in the most optimal manner possible.
What You’ll Bring:
  • 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience in a unionized warehouse environment;
  • 5 to 7 years experience in a diverse, unionized warehouse environment;
  • College Diploma or equivalent education preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of warehouse operations;
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, preferably in an unionized environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage under a collective agreement;
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Saskatchewan Labour Laws and Regulations;
  • Overtime may be required to finish off required duties.
  • Applicant must have ability to work during a operational hours (days, afternoon, night and weekend shifts) as scheduled by management.
  • Experience working handling food and perishable products preferred
  • Working knowledge of CFIA regulations and standard HACCP practices preferred
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and SAP Warehouse Management knowledge preferred;
  • Proficient in MS Office
