Draeger's Engineered Solutions team in Kingston, Ontario designs and manufactures Live Fire Training Systems and Mining Refuge and Rescue Solutions. Live Fire Training Systems use propane fueled fires to allow trainees to prepare for real firefighting scenarios. Some of the realistic scenarios can include kitchens, couches, beds, cars, aircraft etc. Mine Refuge chambers provide shelter during an emergency in hazardous environments during underground mining operations.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position performs all Shipping, Receiving, Inspection and Inventory control duties for the warehouse. The incumbent maintains proper inventory levels against Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s), pulls & kits product and / or parts to ship to customer, arranges and handles carrier requirements, receives, validates and stores product being received into inventory to ensure quality and accuracy, and updates systems for proper tracking and reporting.
Main Accountabilities :
- Performs Shipping activities, including providing estimated freight costs to Customer Service / Bid Management for standard order quotations; pulling, cleaning, packaging and labeling of product for delivery to customers; organizing shipment logistics with couriers including pickup / delivery scheduling and required documentation; arranging customs of all applicable outgoing shipments with assistance from Customs and Export Control department; loading freight on carrier’s trucks; and coordinating freight charges with accounting department.
- Performs Receiving activities, including unloading freight from carrier’s trucks; verifying accuracy and condition of received goods; receiving product into SAP; moving goods to proper locations / departments and / or shelves; and verifying accuracy and condition of received goods.
- Performs Receiving inspections, including validating the quality of received materials based on set acceptance criteria; performing mechanical, visual and dimensional inspections of parts using inspection hand tools; quarantining, identifying and managing product / parts that do not pass inspection; and communicating with Purchasing agent, documenting and tracking issues.
- Establishes schedule, and tracks daily cycle counts per A, B, C inventory codes to ensure complete inventory coverage during the calendar year per established SOP’s.
- Maintains organized warehouse both inside and outside according to 5S Principles.
- Acts as SAP Key user in the area of inventory transactional processing, including being the go-to person for questions and training in relation to the proper execution of all inventory transactions; troubleshooting issues and problems to bring to a satisfactory resolution; and correcting SAP inventory transaction background batch failures.
- Tracks and coordinates required calibration certification of shop equipment.
- Performs daily, monthly and yearly safety inspections of identified shop equipment, and inspections and sign-offs for forklift, ladders, rolling stairs, and overhead crane.
- Performs other tasks as required, which could include assisting the certified trades in the production shop.
Education :
- Completion of college or university or a comparable combination of education, training and related work experience.
Related Experience :
- Two years of related experience.
- Previous warehouse experience with inventory control and receiving inspection required.
- Certified forklift operator or willingness to become certified is required.
- Proficiency in SAP (or similar ERP system), MS Excel and MS Word.
- Strong knowledge of principles of inventory control, cycle counting, physical inventory practices and related processes.

- Above average organizational skills are a must.
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with good decision-making skills.
- Ability to work with financial auditors during audits.
- Knowledge of Dangerous Goods shipping requirements.
Working Conditions :
- The position is based at Draeger Safety Canada Ltd., Kingston ON.
- This is deemed a safety-sensitive position, where performance limitations (due to substance use, for example) could result in an incident or situation with high consequences. Therefore, post-employment drug or alcohol screenings may be required prior to performing work at customer sites.
- Must have the ability to walk, climb a rolling warehouse ladder, and lift up to 50 lbs. as part of daily work.
